Former student guilty
in sexual assault case
by CRYSTAL HARMON
A jury found a former CMl' student guilty Thursday of fourth-
degree criminal sexual conduct.
The verdict was reached in the case of Stacey Williams. 23. after a
four-day trial in Isabella County Circuit Court. Williams was charged
after an incident that occurred in an on-campus apartment last April.
During his opening statement. Isabella County Assistant Prosecutor Mark Duthie told jurors they would decide if the incident was "a
willing sexual act by both parties or a sexual assault."
Williams, who lives in Southfleld. took the stand Wednesday and
stated the woman was a willing sexual partner during the incident. '
The jury of live men and seven women continued debating Thursdav
after having the court replay the testimony of the woman and the
defendant. Several hours later, they reached the verdict.
The fourth-degree esc charge is a high-court misdemeanor
punishable by up to two years in prison or a $500 fine.
After the jury read its \erdict and left the courtroom. Williams
sobbed.
-Jury foreman Conrad English of Mount Pleasant said the reason
deliberations lasted so long was because "there were certain elements
of the charges that some of the jurors had trouble with."

"All student employees, with
the exception of some level four
employees, will receive a pav

Level four employees are

Pay rates for level four
employees may not increase if
they made more than $5 per
