Administration to probe legality of raffles

Uncertainty in the minds of University officials
coneernintl the legality of raffles is leading tn an
inv estimation of the issue by Sharon George, cimr
dinator of student arlivit ies.
According lo Mount Pleasant Prosecuting At
torney Joseph Harberi. there is a new law which
allows certain forms of raffles tn take place.
However. George Jennings, director of Hous
ing;. contends raffles are illegal but not a major
concern if held on a small scale.
New law prompts query
George says the entire issue needs in
vestigaling.
"We had been doing the raffles on a statement
that (the prosecuting attorney* would not d<.
anything if they are held on a limited basis."
George said.
George said she was unaware of this policy and
has decided to research the issue.

too much because it is hard to
change the average ot such a

are surprised at a final grade thev received. These students do
hav e a course of art ion to follow which includes t he first step of
contacting the professor.
"I did not do too good last semester, i am planning to go to
my computer science professor." said Handy Diet/.. Newaygo
junior. "I went to him after t he final exam and told him I didn't
agree with his grading system. I hav e talked to other students
in the class and they have agreed." Dietz said. "Normally I
don't worry about grades, but this semi'ster I was kind of
upset."

When Program Hoard was negotiating for a hand to plav at Hose
Arena Winter Semester, the name ol Ozzy Osbourne won out over
several other groups.
Hut PH Concert Coordinator Mania Miller is not saving who
t hose- ot her bands w ere.
Miller. Stevensville senior, s.nd PH received adverse publicity
vv hen a list of bands t hev w ere seeking was published last fall in CM
I.IFF.
The last time I mentioned the five or six bands we wen- looking
at. there were people cutting down the board saying. 'God. why
didn't you get t hem.' and 1 vv mild rat her not do t hat." M liter s.nd.
Miller said these anonymous groups were ol a different musical
type style than Osbourne's blatant hard rock stance, anil did not of
