Council suggests
non-alcoholic rush
by JACKIE SMITH
LIFE Staff Writer
Interfratrrnity Council is
aiming toward a non alcoholic
ru?h in the near future, while
Panhellcnic Council is work
inx towani one formal rush
ptr year.
"We're trying U> change
the old stereotype way of
thinking." said Scott Howard.
IKC rush chairman. "If we can
get away frejm alcohol, we can
get people interested in join
ing a frit ter nity and not a
place to drink."
Howard. Taylor senior, said
changing from one way of
handling rush to another
quickly would be difficult at a
small university like Central
so IFC decided to change over
gradually.
Howard said it is more difficult to control the frater
nitic-s* actions on a small campus, as opposed to a lar^e-r
campus like Michigan State
University.
This year IFC will he sponsoring a non alohotif hti.s
tour the day fieforc rush for
m/illy begins ard is cn.-orag-
ing fraternities to host at
least one other non alroholir
party during this winter's
rush. Jan. 23 to Feb. 2. he
said.
The bus tour, a new idea
this year, will start in front of
the University Center at 2:30
p.m. and take rushees t>> each
fraternity house for about 15
minutes, giving fraternities *
chance lo introduce
themselves and to show their
house, he said.
