X-rated films

by J.A. HEBLER
LIFE Staff Writer
A Cniversitv funding inn

rated movies next semester.
State law permits the State
Department of Management and
Budget to withhold money ap
propriated to a unn ersity if a
film that is rented or purchased
is considered obscene. s,.I(i Mike
Shore, director of media rela
tions for Attorney Come ral
Frank Kelly.
However, an X rated film is
not necessarily obscene, as | he
le-^'al definition of obscenity
must apply. Part of that defini
turn imolves whether the film is
offensive to community sian
d arils.
President Harold Atiel s.nd he

higher learning, Abel said.
"In a society where we are
concerned with human rights,
these movies consistently show
the exploitation of women."
Abel said. "It's comparable to
w allowing in mud."
I'H clarified its position on the
issue as its research is still in the
preliminary stair.es. said ("hair
man Chris Jablonski.
"If we were to show an X
r.ttetl movie it would be one of
the cult films like Andy
Warhols Frankenstein or Fritz
the fat," said Jablonski. "That's
our whole intent. Kverythin^'
rujht now is inconclusive."
Jablonski is scheduled to meet
with .lames Hill, vice president
for Student Affairs, later today.
Hill, like Abel, is opposed to X

I have one ipiestion that I
