A tentative agreement
over how student
evaluations should be used
in determining teaching
effectiveness has- been
reached by CMU and the
Faculty Association, ending
about 200 days of
bargaining.
The agreement, initialed
by both sides June 8, now
will go before the FA
membership in the fall
before final' approval, according to -FA President
CJeorge Blackburn. Most are
away for the summer, he
.said.

negotiator _ John
Weatherford declined to
provide CM LIFE with'a
copy of the agreement or
release details within the
two-page document until the
FA executive board and the
membership can view it. The
agreement will be part of
the current faculty contract'
which expires June 30,1980..
Negotiators for both sides
were to decide what role
student evaluations would
have in teaching effectiveness, and subsequently their role in
promotion, tenure and reappointment, f

departments," Blackburn

Shirley reported at Monday's City Commission
meeting that based on a past
supreme court decision, the

system if, among other
reasons, "The flow of outside traffic would reduce the
quality of life."
