freshman, were elected chairman
and vice chair man of the Program
Board in yesterday's student body

. The constitutional amendment
setting a new date-fof the student body presidential and vice

majority approval, as 977 students voted in favor of the amendment while 295 voted against it.
'A total of 188 students who voted
for Program Board chairman
did not vote yes or no on the
amendment.'

188 should be included in the vote.

would not have the required 10

Elections Director Dave Haney
said, "As- of right how we. feel
that the amendment has passed.
The results won't be official for
48 hours. Those who don't agree
with our decision must prove we
made" a mistake." % \
He added that the Elections
Committee has set a date -April
27 - for the presidential and vice
presidential election.
Shirley Chisholm, who became
the- first black woman ever
elected to Congress by, going to
"the people" instead of through
regular political party structure,
will   speak  here Friday night.
Mrs. Chisholm, who claims in
her typical no-nonsense fashion
to be a champion-of the rights,
of women and disadvantaged
blacks and Puerto Ricans, will
speak at 8 p.m. in Finch Field-
bouse. Her talk "is sponsored by
tiie Speakers Series and is free
to the general public.
Mrs. Chisholm entered politics
in 1964 when she ran successfully for the New York State
Assembly on the Democratic
. ticket. While active in Democratic women's activities prior to
her election, her outspoken independence, had made her something less than a favorite of the
Democratic machine in her native
Bedford-Stuyvesant district of
Brooklyn,
She says now that she did not
run at the urging of party leaders
but because the people came to
.,her and asked her to represent
them. "The people wanted me,"
she claims, and she ran success-.
fully  again -in  1965 and  1966.
After compiling an outstanding
record in the New York Assembly in the areas of education
and minority group rights, Mrs.
Chisholm decided in 1968 to seek
her party's nomination.as candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives;

Chairman's position.   -
-Kjolhede tallied 630 votes,
while Szymanskix'eceived442and
Manville 259 votes.
MiSs Doyle Won her position in
an extremely close vote. She narrowly defeated, Dave Hess,
Charlevoix freshman, 556-509'.
The third candidate, Paul Adams,
received 211 votes.
In other election results, the
Peoples* Peace Treaty was approved by those voting, 790«358.
312 of the 1460 persons voting
did not vote on* that question.
