C Milton Pike, dean of students, called the
S0^. dj;?lsl,on "entirely premature" and said
that his office s decision on the case will be known
the first part of this week.
Dean's Decision
Pike's office had charged two male students
with the above actions although the Mt. Pleasant
Municipal Court had only found them guilty of
the illegal entry charge and had not charged them
with minors in possession.
In Student Court's written decision of the case,
it stated- that "obviously the two students had
consumed alcoholic beverages and that they had
used a barn for a party without the consent of
the owner."
The students admitted this during the Student
Judiciary hearing and testified to the accuracy of

Township chairman John Verwey, the Board could
not rescind a resolution passed last year concerning land annexation.
3 Sides Surrounded
According to the resolution, no land could be
annexed unless the proposed land was surrounded
by city property on at least three sides. Revisal of
the resolution is necessary for the Union Township
Board to grant annexation approval.
With the request for reconsideration of the
petition, Central will announce their plans to file
a petition with the Isabella County Board of Supervisors for an election on the annexation issue.
If the Union Township votes to accept the petition, then annexation will be complete.
the situation sheet presented by the dean of students office. ' '
The court also pointed out in its decision that
the students behavior was both illegal and certainly short-sighted but that they had been fined
accordingly in Municipal Court.
Student Judiciary then recommended dropping
the charges because they were unconstitutional
when compared with Amendment V of the Constitution.
Court Recommendations
"Primarily, the incident took place while the
students were off-campus, therefore nullifying the
need of the University to enter into the problem.
Secondly, the University is charging the students
for consumption of alcoholic beverages as minors
when even the civil authorities felt that charge
unnecessary," the Court stated.
Student Judiciary also recommended that. Ceil*
tral "curtail future involvement in off-cahipus
discipline situations leaving the punishment of
wrong-doings to the proper authorities."
In basing its decision on Amendment V in the
recently passed Student Bill of Rights and Responsibilities, the Court cited Article V, Section 3, of
the present constitution which reads, "Proposed
revisions and/or amendments of this constitution
shall become effective immediately upon the certification of the election committee to the president
of the Student Body that said proposals have
received a simple majority vote of those-voting in
said election. -
Court Accepts Revision
Since the elections had been certified by the
Elections Committee, the Judiciary felt it, "must
govern itself in accordance with the newly revised
and amended Constitution."
"We fully realize that the administration has
yet to approve the new Constitution, but this does
not affect the will of the students to devise their
own governmental form," the Court stated.
The constitution, with its new amendments in
the form of a Student Bill of Rights and Responsibilities, has not yet been ratified by the Board of
Trustees.
