The Student Judiciary ruled
Monday evening that Voice
party candidates John Johnson and Kurt Ciske should
have an additional 72 hours in
which to answer a circular
distributed Monday afternoon
four hours before campaigning
was to end.
The circular, headed "Voice
Candidates Attempt Entry To
Get Preview of Life," was
printed and distributed by nine
students.
The circular accused the
Voice candidates of planning
to obtain and of actually securing a copy of the March 25
Life which endorsed the Action ticket, Voice's opponents,.
They got a copy on Thursday
night and answered the endorsement Friday morning
when Life came out.
The circular also stated that
the Voice candidates tried to
obtain it through devious
means and to use it to political
advantage.
The court contends that it
was left no alternative in the
situation but to issue the injunction because of the seriousness of the charges made in the
circular. The court said that
"whether or not the charges
themselves be true or false"
the Voice party must have time
to answer them.
The court went on to apologize for the inconvenience suffered by all concerned but added that both parties were injured by "the irresponsible actions of a third party."
Mary Look, one of the nine
signers of the circular, said,
"We had no notification that
the court was considering the
action it presented Monday
night. We have evidence and
sworn statements to back up
everything presented in the
circular. But we were given no
chance to say so in court.
"Since Monday we have
been informed by Voice supporters that they have filed
two civil cases against us and
are considering a third. However, our lawyer who contacted
the county clerk's office said
they have no record of the
suits," she said.
Neil Hopp, another signer,
said that "The main complaint
of the court seems to be that
we waited until the last minute
to put out the information.
Now the Voice ticket has been
given three days to answer
the accusations and as of now
(Thursday noon) they haven't
made any public announcement. They are waiting for the
last minute to answer so that
they have the last word. This
is the very reason they were
able to obtain the injunction
in the first place."
John Johnson, Voice presidential candidate, would release no information concerning the situation. He said, "No
comment. We will individually
express our feelings Thursday
about everything. Our friends
and supporters have strongly
urged us to reach the public."
The signers paid for Monday's circular and distributed
it because "the student body
has a right to know how Johnson and Ciske went about get-
ing something they wanted
after the Life staff had definitely told them they must
wait until Friday just like any
other student before seeing
the endorsement. We felt that
even candidates for office
should follow the rules; obviously they felt differently."
All second eight weeks
classes in physical education will have {heir first
meeting on Monday.

'Satchmo', All-Stars Draw
by Mary Look
Life Organizations Editor
"■ Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong and'his All Stars played to capacity crowd in Finch Monday night. Four encores of "Hello
Dolly"- were interjected into the two hour performance which
.featured such old favorites as '-Sleepy Time Down South" and
: ?*My. Bucket's Got a Hole in It." .
■ In an interview before the concert, Armstrong answered the
time-jnolded question "How's business?"
1 "'""We never lay off. We'rebusy all the time. We're booked
through November, now?" said the King of Dixieland.
"Retire? Someday; who knows. In music you don't retire
like fighters do. We just wdn't play as much." With this, Louis
"Satchmo" Armstrong went on to explain some of his views on
entertainers and music, "the universal language."
On the overseas tours, Louis and his All-Stars do not consider themselves good-will ambassadors for the United States.
They go to entertain. "They're glad to see us and we're glad to
see them," he said.
"From the way they accept us, it could be that we help the
image of the United States abroad," he continued.
