In One Year
Central's campus enrollment is at an all-time high
with a total of 8,270, an increase of 949, or almost 13
percent over that of last fall,
according to George N. Lauer,
registrar.
Last fall there were 7,321
students enrolled.
The freshman class leads the
undergraduate enrollment
with 2,557, followed by the
sophomores with 1,986, juniors
1,542' and seniors 1,501.
Special, guest and graduate
student enrollment totals 684.
This year's freshman class
represents a 13.5 percent increase over last fall's. The junior class is some 6.3 percent
larger and the senior class is
up 5.2 percent.
Enrollments of special students, guests and graduates
represent a jump of about
16.5 percent.
Of this-semester's <*,270 total, 4,336 or just over 52 per •
cent, are women.
This money is needed to continue general suport for the
orphanage and to again make
payment on the 60 acre farm
which the orphanage purchased last year.
Last fall's drive netted $2,«
500—most of which was used
to purchase a used truck and
to make a down payment on
the farm land. A number of
CARE tool and school kits
were also sent to the orphanage.
Since the number of orphans grows from year to
year—from 30 at the beginning to over 70 how—a bigger percentage of yearly CMU
donations must go towards individual support and day to
day care of all the orphans.
In the early years of adoption, most of the money raised
was spent on food, clothing
and medical supplies. -However, in recent years money
from CMU has given the orphanage a new.$lj500 building used as a sleeping quarters, down payment on the
farm, a used truck for transportation and a variety of
CARE school and farm kits.
Central's contact with
Korea, the American Korean
Foundation in New York, has
provided annual progress reports, pictures and film footage to the Orphanage Campus
Committee in hopes of providing a closer relationship
between CMU students and
Korea's orphans.
