The American Association
of University Professors national council, it was announced this week, has not yet
taken action requested by the
CMU local chapter.
The local member of the
AAUP met last spring to discuss the possibility of rule infraction, with regard to the removal"^ certain faculty ^members. At that time the local
voted to request assistance
from the national unit.
Charles Westie, Sociology
Department and thea acting
spokesman for tlie local
chapter, said this wee!s Shafi
"The deeisioa tor the Isves-
tigatsoa by She aationaL k
was ' a long, slow, carefully"
considered, process."
The AAUP at the time was
protesting the removal of certain faculty members without
enough notification. The
AAUP's policy requests of institutions that hire their members, that each member be
given one year notification before removal.
President Judson W. Foust,
When asked* about this
years revision in the school
policy on notification, said,
"We have attempted to move
up the notification date. We
have not found it possible to
move the date up to one year,
as the AAUP suggests. The
state board has never adopted
the policy of one year notification, and there are doubts
that the policy would work.
"We will attempt to notify the individual faculty
memfeess hoioze Christmas
vacation, except the • employees of oasly one year",,
Pres. Foust added that'he had
proposed a question to the
AAUP: "How long should the
faculty members have before
they notify the school that
they will be leaving?" He said
the reply he received, stated
in effect, "that they had been
discussing that but have not
yet arrived at a decision."

7 Aid for wheel-chcrir-bound college students is in th© -
making for Central. The idea was born in Battle CreeJ_v -
started by Miss Blanche Sylvester, executive director of the
Calhoun County Tuberculosis association.
Under the .proposed set-up
campus buildings would be
equipped to enable ' handicapped youths to acquire a
college education, something
which is now quite difficult to
obtain.

According to President Judson W. Foust, CMU was chosen
because of its central location,
size, academic requirements
and relatively flat land area.
. At present, .no four-year, degree-granting college or university in Michigan bas the facilities to handle crippled persons. Qnly three two-year colleges have these facilities.
