Chapel June 10. Speaker for
A sign has been painted on
the middle of the Grawn Hall
parking lot driveway indicating
GNIKRAP ON. The vertical
sign has been painted up-side-
down.
Until this time, parking has
been permitted on the sides and
in the middle of the lot.
Because the up-side-down
sign was unreadable, the middle of the lot was full of cars
ihe second day of summer
school. Since then a stand-up,
horizontally-read sign has
been placed in ihe middle of
ihe lot, and there have been
no cars parked there.
Mr, Henry Mitchell, administrative assistant in the business
division, said Wednesday that
after debating about the tight
squeeze parking problem that
occurred in the lot, especially
in winter with the addition of
snow, the administration decided to eliminate parking in
the middle of the lot. Moving
the driving isles to the sides of
the lot or changing the parking
system to parallel parking were
other solutions considered.
Mr. Mitchell said that the
pointers called iho city io see
if it had a stencil of NO
PARKING thai Ceniral could
uso to paint the direction on
ihe pavement in the lot. Since
ihe city didn't have such a
stencil, ihe sign had to be
painted by hand, and ihe
painier apparently confused
reading vertical signs wiih
reading Chinese.
The sign will be blocked out
an'd repainted, Mr. Mitchell
said.
Mr. Bovee holds a Bachelor
of Arts degree from Easiorn
Michigan University and has
earned his Master of Arts degree from Michigan Siaie
University. His scholarship
earned for him membership
in Kappa Delia Pi and Pi
Gamma Mu, educational honorary societies.
Mr. Bovee has been associated with Central Michigan
University for the last, twenty
years, holding increasingly responsible executive positions in
the administration of the
school.
In addiiion lo his local responsibilities, Mr. Bovoo has
served on a number of important state committees during the past decade and ai
present is chairman of ihe
committee of controllers for
ihe Michigan Council of Siaie
College Presidents. He is recognized as an authority in his
field of Finance and Business
Administration among colleges and universities in ihe
United Stales.
Among other activities in
CL
The United States educational
system is generally good but
the teacher training program
varies from institution to institution according to Professor
Francisco Miro Quesada who is
visiting Central this week from
Lima, Peru. He explained, in an
interview, that the six universities in Peru have a universal
teacher training program.
Professor Quesada is visiting Ihe Summer Institute for
Mathematics ai Central for
ihe National Science Foundation on ihe foreign visitors
program. The purpose of his
visit is io siudy training
methods and organization of
high school maihemaiics programs.
He is president of the Peruvian Philosophical Society. He
las written many articles about
lational and world problems
ind has authored several books.
He traveled to the Soviet Union
ind Communist China and his
jook, "The Other Half of the
World" has been a best seller
in Peru.
He said ihat ihe recent interest in science has not increased ihe emphasis o n
mathematics in Peru for two
reasons. First, math has always been emphasized and
secondly, sputnik did not
have the same meaning io the
Peruvians as it had a less direct influence on their country.
"All students who finish high
school in Peru must take trigonometry. However, 80 to 90
percent of the students quit after the 8th grade and go to
work," he said.
Mount Pleasant civic affairs,
Mr. Bovee is a member of the
City Planning Commission, the
Kiwanis and the Chamber of
Commerce.
As a member of the last
named organization, he was
granted the "Outstanding Citizen of Mt, Pleasant" award in
1957. He also received the Lane
Bryant annual award citation
for community service in 1956
and is listed in "Who's Who in
the Midwest."
On what has now become an
annual pilgrimage, Manistee
Summer Theatre will bring the
second show of its tenth season
at the Bamsdell Opera House,
"The Gazebo" by Alec Coppell,
to the CMU auditorium Monday
July 11 at 8 p.m.

Hall, David Matson and Richard
Kanehl. Miss Hall has appeared

Under the Elms" and in
Arthur Miller's "Death of a
Salesman."
David Matson and Richard
Kanehl joined the Manistee acting company after several seasons at the Denison Summer
Theatre at Granville, Ohio.

Later she rode a camel to
meet the Azalai, the salt cara-
ivan that comes from the salt
mines at Taoudeni, 550 miles
away. The camels, carrying the
salt slabs, come in caravans just
as they have for centuries.
As far as the records show.
Mrs. Miller was the first
American woman to go alone
in the ancient town where
ihe population is Mohammedan, and donkeys and
herds of goats roam streets
which are ankle deep in sand.
In editing her film, Mrs. Miller has written titles in sand appropriate to the deserts that
surround Timbuktu in the
Sudan of French Africa.

Until this time, parking has been permitted on the sides and in the middle of the lot. Because the up-side-down sign was unreadable, the middle of the lot was full of cars ihe second day of summer school. Since then a stand-up, horizontally-read sign has been placed in ihe middle of ihe lot, and there have been no cars parked there. Mr, Henry Mitchell, administrative assistant in the business division, said Wednesday that after debating about the tight squeeze parking problem that occurred in the lot, especially in winter with the addition of snow, the administration decided to eliminate parking in the middle of the lot. Moving the driving isles to the sides of the lot or changing the parking system to parallel parking were other solutions considered. Mr. Mitchell said that the pointers called iho city io see if it had a stencil of NO PARKING thai Ceniral could uso to paint the direction on ihe pavement in the lot. Since ihe city didn't have such a stencil, ihe sign had to be painted by hand, and ihe painier apparently confused reading vertical signs wiih reading Chinese. The sign will be blocked out an'd repainted, Mr. Mitchell said. Mr. Bovee holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Easiorn Michigan University and has earned his Master of Arts degree from Michigan Siaie University. His scholarship earned for him membership in Kappa Delia Pi and Pi Gamma Mu, educational honorary societies. Mr. Bovee has been associated with Central Michigan University for the last, twenty years, holding increasingly responsible executive positions in the administration of the school. In addiiion lo his local responsibilities, Mr. Bovoo has served on a number of important state committees during the past decade and ai present is chairman of ihe committee of controllers for ihe Michigan Council of Siaie College Presidents. He is recognized as an authority in his field of Finance and Business Administration among colleges and universities in ihe United Stales. Among other activities in CL The United States educational system is generally good but the teacher training program varies from institution to institution according to Professor Francisco Miro Quesada who is visiting Central this week from Lima, Peru. He explained, in an interview, that the six universities in Peru have a universal teacher training program. Professor Quesada is visiting Ihe Summer Institute for Mathematics ai Central for ihe National Science Foundation on ihe foreign visitors program. The purpose of his visit is io siudy training methods and organization of high school maihemaiics programs. He is president of the Peruvian Philosophical Society. He las written many articles about lational and world problems ind has authored several books. He traveled to the Soviet Union ind Communist China and his jook, "The Other Half of the World" has been a best seller in Peru. He said ihat ihe recent interest in science has not increased ihe emphasis o n mathematics in Peru for two reasons. First, math has always been emphasized and secondly, sputnik did not have the same meaning io the Peruvians as it had a less direct influence on their country. "All students who finish high school in Peru must take trigonometry. However, 80 to 90 percent of the students quit after the 8th grade and go to work" he said. Mount Pleasant civic affairs, Mr. Bovee is a member of the City Planning Commission, the Kiwanis and the Chamber of Commerce. As a member of the last named organization, he was granted the "Outstanding Citizen of Mt, Pleasant" award in 1957. He also received the Lane Bryant annual award citation for community service in 1956 and is listed in "Who's Who in the Midwest." On what has now become an annual pilgrimage, Manistee Summer Theatre will bring the second show of its tenth season at the Bamsdell Opera House, "The Gazebo" by Alec Coppell, to the CMU auditorium Monday July 11 at 8 p.m. Playing principal roles in "The Gazebo" will be Nanci Hall, David Matson and Richard Kanehl. Miss Hall has appeared in a number of featured roles at the Barn Theatre, near Battle Creek with the professional company there, notably "Guys and Dolls" and "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes." She has also won critical acclaim for serious work as Abbie in O'Neill's "Desire Under the Elms" and in Arthur Miller's "Death of a Salesman." David Matson and Richard Kanehl joined the Manistee acting company after several seasons at the Denison Summer Theatre at Granville, Ohio. They toured last winter in a FERNDALE SENIOR—Shown above, left to right, are Cadet Charles O. Coffman of Central Michigan University and Cadet Robert G. The travelogue will be presented by Julia Bock Miller who has circled the globe a number of times. Mrs. Miller arrived in Timbuktu, Africa, via ihe weekly mail truck through 90 miles of deep sand { ai 60 miles an hour. Later she rode a camel to meet the Azalai, the salt cara- ivan that comes from the salt mines at Taoudeni, 550 miles away. The camels, carrying the salt slabs, come in caravans just as they have for centuries. As far as the records show. Mrs. Miller was the first American woman to go alone in the ancient town where ihe population is Mohammedan, and donkeys and herds of goats roam streets which are ankle deep in sand. In editing her film, Mrs. Miller has written titles in sand appropriate to the deserts that surround Timbuktu in the Sudan of French Africa. Dr. Winfield L.
