Amcncan heritage, self direc-
mn. and a friend are the three
j-onMants of successful living.
In his last official talk as prescient, Dr. Anspach told his au-
jlionre (hat the greatest eer-
iainiy of our lives is the certainty of change.
Because of that we need some
jbm.tanls, some things that are
§m«lianginfi.
Thc President said our
heritage was an important
constant for us to believe in
because of thc efforts of Communism.
"If we spent as much time as
pome of the forces in the world
Ian- .spending on what they think
b the right way of life, we'd
pve fewer problems in this
(country," Dr. Ansapch said.
He suggested that perhaps our
[youth today are not as aware as
py should be of the price that
l»-e paid for our heritage.
Self direction gives the individual the values he needs to
cope with change.
"There's an ethical base to
life as well as a financial
base." the President pointed
out.
He said that many fall by the
wayside in college because they
lack not ability but self direction.
"About GO per cent of the
youngsters dropped from this
University are not dropped because of lack of ability," thc
President said.
Dr. Anspach pointed out that
thc guidance of a friend can
help the individual make the
proper decision.
He said thai it is of tremendous value to each student
here to "have one good friend
with high ethical standards."
The President suggested to
teachers that these three principles can help them provide leadership to youngsters who need
it.
"Each youngster you get is a
complete challenge," he said,
"and most teachers believe in
their ability to help youngsters
as individuals."
"If you didn't believe you
could change people and human
nature" the President said, "you
wouldn't be happy in this profession."
