Gymnasts to Exhibit Skill in Annual Show
"Music, Muscles, and Merriment," the annual gymnastics
show, will be presented April 12,
in the Gymnasium.
The gymnastic team will present tumbling, acrobatics, high
balance beam, high horizontal
bar, parallel bars, free standing
calisthenics and trampoline exhibitions.
Among ihe performers are
Wilbur Bishop, Tom Dezelsky,
Kay Reichenbach, Dick Malla,
Kent Kuehn, and Joe Winiarski.
Modern dance club will give a
Japanese interpretation of modern dance. Charlotte Denman,
physical education instructor and
club director, will be assisted by
Sumi Tsuchiya, visiting Japanese
physical education instructor.
Another highlight of the evening will be the performance of
the Country Dancers, under the
direction of Jean Smith, assistant
professor of physical education.
Valerie Strong, Williamsburg
sophomore, will be accompanist.
Miss Strong, who has played
professionally, has written her
own arrangements for the show.
Guest performers will be an
Glee Clubs to Present
Concert April 10
Men's and Women's Glee Clubs
will present a concert April 10 at
8:15 p.m. in the Ballroom.
Sacred and secular numbers by
English and American composers
will be sung by the women's
group.
A collection of show tunes will
be the men's contribution to the
program. The concert will also
feature Dick Marquardt, Niles
sophomore, as the story teller in
a novelty number.

Presidents Concert
to Honor Anspachs
at Annual Affair
President and Mrs. Charles
Anspach will be honored for their
encouragement of music on campus at the second annual President's Concert April 17 at 8:15
p.m. in the Auditorium.
Music will be presented by the
67-member Concert Choir, under
the direction of Eugene Grove, director of choral music, and the
Concert Band with Norman Dietz,
director of instrumental music.
Semi-formal dress will be optional but it has been requested.
All sororities and fraternities
have been requested to sit together.
and boys coached by Victor
Krumdick, former Purdue University gymnastics coach. This
group of gymnasts has appeared
at Radio City Music Hall.
The most versatile performer
will be Carolyn Osborn, Mt.
Pleasant High School senior.
Miss Osborn has practiced with
the gym team since a student at
the College Elementary School.
She will work on the high balance beam, and flying rings,
and do tumbling and free exercise demonstrations.
Admission will be 50 cents with
proceeds going to the Physical
Education Promotional Fund.
Gymnasium seating facilities are
limited so tickets should be obtained early, according to L. M.
"Doc" Sweeney, director of the
show.
Tickets will be available in the
Health and Physical Education
Building or in the corridor of
Warriner Hall on April 9.
Four Win Chippewa Awards
for Outstanding Campus Work
Seniors and faculty members
selected Milly Doren, Diane Eis-
singer, William Balwinski, and
Ronald Rolph to receive Chippewa Awards in a write-in election. The awards are sponsored
by the CHIPPEWA to be presented to the four outsanding seniors of the year.
Miss Doren, Vassar senior, is
president of Associated Women
Students, a member of Zeta Tau
Alpha, past president of Women's Recreation Association, and
has been an officer in Delta Psi
Kappa and PEMM Club. She was
also elected to Who's Who. Following the secondary curriculum,
Miss Doren has a physical education major and health education and English minors.
Miss Eissinger, Flushing senior, was 1954 Homecoming
Queen, past president of Sigma
Sigma Sigma, a cheerleader,
and a member of Booster Club,
Alpha Psi Omega, Masquers,
and Who's Who. Miss Eissinger
is a speech and drama major,
physical education and English
minor on the secondary curriculum.
Balwinski, Bay City senior, is a
speech major, art and English
minor on the elementary curriculum. He is a senator, president
of Alpha Psi Omega, and a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, Newman Club, Who's Who,
and Booster Club.
Rolph, Birmingham senior, is
president of the student body,
and participated in Varsity football. He is a member of Phi Sigma
Epsilon fraternity, Varsity Club,
and Booster Club. On the secondary curriculum, he has a commerce major, geography and
health education minors,
health education minors. He was
also elected to Who's Who.
Coronation of Regimental Kaydette
to Highlight Military Ball, April U
Dancing instead of drilling will
be the order of the day April 14
when the military science department sponsors the fourth annual
Military Ball from 9 until 12 p.m.
in the Gymnasium.
Highlighting the dance will be
the coronation of the Regimental
Kaydette who will stand in review at the weekly ROTC parades this spring. Also to reign at
the dance and parades will be
Kaydettes representing battalions
and companies.

Harris Wins AWS Election;
Succeeds Doren as President
Ruth Anne Harris, Battle Creek
junior, was elected president of
next year's Associated Women
Students board last week in the
annual AWS spring election. A
total of 426 ballots were cast.
Miss Harris will succeed Milly
Doren, Vassar senior. Both
women traveled to the University
of Indiana this week to represent
Central at the Intercollegiate
AWS conference.
Other officers are Barbara
Fisk, Huntington Woods junior.
vice-president; Judy VerPlank,
Zeeland junior, secretary; Carol
Bloomer, Mt. Pleasant sophomore, treasurer.
Kay LaSalle, Lansing sophomore, upper-class representative;
and Sue Freeman, Lansing freshman, lower-class representative.
AWS board members include
presidents of women's dormitories, representatives from Student
Social Activities Committee, Panhellenic Council, and House Presidents' Council. - •
Kaydettes and cadet promotions
will be announced at intermission.
Bob Eberhart and his orchestra
from Michigan State University
will furnish the music. According
to publicity releases, Eberhart's
orchestra has been voted best
MSU band by students there.
Tickets for the dance are now
on sale. They may be purchased
for $2 from advanced ROTC
members or from the ROTC office. Conrad Persons is in charge
of ticket sales.
General chairman is Larry
Raab. Don Rolph is in charge of
publicity; Ken Kelly, decorations;
Ron Rolph, intermission; and
John Cuthbertson is in charge of
Kaydette elections.
Osterman, Sturdevant
to Present Recital
The senior recital featuring
Lorraine Osterman, Standish senior, soprano soloist, and Carole
Sturdevant, Smiths Creek senior,
piano soloist, will be held in the
Auditorium on April 12 at 7 p.m.
This is a time change from the
social calendar because of a conflict with "Music, Muscles, and
Merriment."
A group of Russian, English,
and American songs will be sung
by Miss Osterman. She will also
present two operatic arias. Louise
Gillett Lantz will be her accompanist.
A Bach prelude, Haydn sonata,
Chopin etudes, and selections by
Tchaikovski, Scriabin, and Debussy comprise Miss Sturdevant's
program.
The performers are pupils of
Levi Dees, assistant professor of
music, and Ray Koos, music instructor.
Young Dem Clubs Circulate Petitions
Advocating 18-Year-0ld Voters Rights
Should 18-year-old's vote? The
Young Democrat Clubs of Michigan are circulating petitions advocating the adoption of this issue as their major project for
1956.

Cuthberfs Work Cited
by Michigan Academy
Two Central Michigan professors were honored by the Michigan Academy of Science, Arts and
Letters at Ann Arbor last Saturday.
Earl Beck, head of the English
department, was named to the office of president-elect by the
group.
Nicholas Cuthbert, professor
of biology was cited for his
"meritorious original work" in
ornithology research. The honors he received are part of the
program in which the academy
recognizes an outstanding scientist at one of the State's smaller colleges.
Completing a three year study
on the Black Tern, a bird that is
common in the marshes of Michigan, earned the recognition of the
academy for Dr. Cuthbert. The
study was made at the Indian
River marsh near Cheboygan.

Young Democrats Club will canvass the 10th Congressional District which includes Isabella and
12 other counties.
Edwards stated ihat a goal of
1,100 signatures has been set for
Central's campus and an additional 10,900 signatures as a
quota for this district.
Last weekend Central's 10th
district was represented at coordination meetings in Detroit
and Lansing by Paul Straught,
chairman of the local club; Laura
Pizzala, secretary of the Young
Democratic Clubs of Michigan;
Ben Edwards, district co-ordina-
tor; and Sue Freeman, Lansing
freshman.

Oh! for a 3 Point;
Central Boasts Two
Point averages of 3.00 adequately qualify Lysle Johnston,
East Jordan freshman, and Bette
Morris, Hillman extension student, as candidates for graduation
honors. They will be recognized
with others in the spring honors
convocation.
Persons with the highest standings in the upper classes are Robert Hall, sophomore, 2.83; Audrey
Fahrenbruch, .junior, ,2.87; and
Joan Mugavero, senior, 2.89.
