Artists Course to Feature
Eight Programs This Season
The 1957-58 Artists Course
schedule has been announced by
Fred R. Bush, Artists Course committee chairman.
The series of eight programs
will not only feature outstanding
entertainment and personalities,
but will also include three lectures.
The schedule is as follows: October 31 — Dance Drama Company; November 5 — Claire Luce,
actress; December 4 — New York
City Opera; January 7 — Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra;
February 18 — Fabian of Scotland Yard; February 26 — The
Singing Hoosiers and Hoosier
Queens from the University of
Indiana; March 19 — Stewart Al-
sop; and April 14 — American
Piano Trio.
Admission to these programs
has already been included in the
activity fees which were paid at
registration.
Students expecting to graduate
in February, June, or August
1958 should pick up their placement papers in the Placement Office.
Notice
Faculty Reception to honor
freshmen, sophomores, and transfer students will be held Monday
evening, September 30 at Keeler
Union Ballroom from 8 until 10
p.m.

According to the A.W.S. constitution, the candidate with the
next highest number of votes automatically assumes the office.
New plans for this fall include
the following:
1. Office hours are going to be
scheduled in order to have more
direct contact with women students.
2,, There will be no freshmen initiation for women. An attempt
will be made to work freshmen
women into more A.W.S. organized activities, such as homecoming floats, teas and other activities.
3. Plans are now under way for
the Michigan State A.W.S. Convention to be held on Central's
campus November 16.
Card Section Meeting
Freshmen for the card section
should meet in the east stands
Saturday morning at 10:30.
Sign Up for Salk Shots
Starting September 30, students
should sign up for either their
first or' third polio shots.
Prexy Tells Hours
Richard Peters, student body
president, has office hours in the
conference rooms at Keeler Union
Monday through Friday from 3:30
to 5:30 p.m.
It's election time again.
Changes have been made in the election procedure this
year. Men's Union President and upperclass Representative,
freshman officers, representatives for "Who's Who in American
Colleges and Universities," and Chip Awards will be decided
at the polls October 8.
The Homecoming Queen will
be elected in a separate election
October 10.
Petitions for .any office, including Homecoming Queen, will be
available in the Dean of Women's
office September 30.
Petitions for the elections to be
held October 8 must be returned
to the same office by 5 p.m. October 2.
Petitions for Homecoming
Queen must be returned by 5 p.m.
October 4.
The Student Senate has adopted
a set of rules, approved by the
presidents of the Panhellenic
Council and the Inter-Fraternity
Council, governing the election of
the Homecoming Queen.
1. There will be only 12 large
posters employed during the
campaign. These posters
will be placed in Keeler
Union, Warriner Hall, Cole's
Campus Store, one in each
dormitory, and the Physical
Education Building.
2. There will be no nametags,
pictures, or any type of ornamentation worn on your
person.
3. There will be only three
nights of campaigning and
general events are planned
these nights, October 7, 8,
9.
4. There will be no other organized campaigning, such
as snake dances, car parades, parades through dormitories or other public
buildings.
Campaigning for the regular
election October 8 will remain the
same as it has been in the past.
Student Body Gain
Shows Girls Ahead
Freshmen and graduate women
students outnumber their male
classmates this semester, but in
all other classes the men reign
supreme.
The pyramid is topped with
1433 freshmen students and tapers
down to 442 special, graduate, and
Saturday students, making a total
enrollment of 3,913. In comparison with last year's enrollment
statistics shows an 11 per cent
increase in the student population.
Dr. Spacie to Teach
Traverse City Courses
Central Michigan College and
Michigan State University are
cooperating in providing graduate
college instruction at Traverse
City this Fall.
Courses in education are being
taught by Dr. Edwin Spacie,'a
regular member of Central's staff.
In addition to graduate courses
an undergraduate course in education is also being taught by Dr.
Spacie.
Dr. Spacie holds a Bachelors degree from Northern Illinois State
University, a master's from the
University of Iowa, and doctorate
from Michigan State University.
