Probably in the dark about it all
one freshman lad strolled up to the
counter in the General Office to
register for his sugar rationing book
a week ago and filled out a slip in
proper form. When asked by the
lady behind the desk if he had sugar
at home, the lad replied, "Yup, I
left her home. She's just a bother at
college." The youth was only one of
an estimated figure of nearly two
thousand who visited the registration last week in the General Office
and the College Elementary building.
A small room has been set aside
for housing the various museum
relics which have been gathered by
President-Emeritus E. C. Warriner
and his committee. The room is located on the first floor of Grawn
Hall. Faculty members may make
use of articles stored there.
, Several Central classes attended
the Higgins Lake Conservation
Training School last Saturday and
Sunday. Miss Irene Jorae Mr.
George Wheeler and Dr. Robert
Campbell were in charge of the
classes which did field work in connection with their courses.
Dean C. C. Barnes announced
Monday that 82 beds were sold at a
private sale on Saturday. The beds
were formerly used by residents in
Ronan Hall. New beds are now in
use at the dormitory. The beds sold
included bed, mattress, and spring
and were priced at $5.25.
Members of the social processes
classes visited the Indian Resettlement Project Monday night. The
superintendent of the Michigan-
Wisconsin District expained the purpose and plan of the settlement and
discussed the social and economic
problems of the Indian people. Betty
John arranged for the trip. The
group was accompanied by Rev.

Dental Hygiene
In Friday (lasses
Mt. Pleasant Dentists to Lead
Discussions; Cards to Be Issued.
Freshmen will discuss how
dental hygiene fits into the
hardening program when Mt.
Pleasant dentists take over
the English classes Friday.
In what might be called a "visit
your dentist" campaign the health
department has the close cooperation of the dentists of Mt. Pleasant,
the personel and English departments and urges all students to aid
in national defense by participating.
Dr.' Louis E. Hutto, head of the
department of physical and health
education, says that the greatest
single cause of army rejection of
draftees is defective teeth. With the

At the Appleblossom Club meeting
Monday night Regina Kreina,
Brown City sophomore, was elected
president for the ensuing year.
Dorothy Garsteck, Flushing freshman, will be vice-president; Mary
Ellen Wallace, Sandusky freshman,
secretary; and Marian Stimer, Lake-
view freshman, treasurer.
Stay in college men, and secure all the training possible
in the sciences, mathematics
and other allied courses, so
that trained technicians will
be available for duty with the
air force branch of the army
or navy.
Deferments are available for men
who can pass physical examinations
and who wish to attend colleges to
secure the necessary background for
air force posts ranging from pilots
to engineers.
This was the keynote of the discussion at Central Michigan College
this week by army and navy leaders
who directed "bull" sessions with
more than 400 of the institution's
men. Collegians were urged to "take
the news back home" and inform
high school senior men of the opportunities which may be found in the
air forces if they attend college.
Captain George F. Samsen of
Grand Rapids met with campus
men on Thursday to discuss op
portunities and announce that a
travelling examining board would
be on the Central Michigan campus Tuesday, May 21, to give
screening tests and hold interviews.
The navy had its day when Ensign Bruce L. Bennett of Detroit
staged interviews and explained the
navy's deferment plan Monday. The
program is already in effect at Central Michigan and more than a
dozen youths have been accepted
and are taking courses preparatory
to becoming navy officers in flying
and other allied branches. The
army's deferment program will get
under way within the next two

head and faculty air force advisor
for the army, urged every man student to "look into the details" before
accepting a regular selective service
rating as a private.
High school students may remain
in college the whole four years if
his grades meet scholastic requirements of the air forces and present
college men will be permitted to remain in school until they graduate,
Carey said.

Highlighting the spring
social season at Central will
be the annual Woman's
League ball to be staged from,
9 p. m. to 1 a. m. this year in
the Keeler Union ballroom.
Bud Benford and his orchestra will play for the event.
Decorations will follow a
spring-like atmosphere with
May flowers forming the basic
background, dance leaders
have announced.
Corsages will be worn at the ball,
.it was announced Tuesday afternoon at a special meeting of the
Woman's League board. Opinion on
the question was divided earlier in
the week with many campus women
agreeing that there should be a ban
on corsages.
Pre-dance ticket sales indicated
that attendance will be one of the
largest of the spring season.

Committee chairmen for the ball
include Ina Ringle, Middleton
junior, decorations; Helen Coffman,
Detroit junior, tickets; and Eleanor
Wendt, Mt. Pleasant freshman, invitations. General chairman is Eleanor Addy, Wyandotte senior. Tickets
are $1.38 a couple including tax.

voices will present its annual home concert in toe ^ege auditorium at the assembly this Friday morning. The tiba* w®.be
under the direction of Prof. J. Harold Powers, head of the college
music department.
The concert will consist of a program of varied musical selections chosen from a number of the programs presented by. the
choir in its out-state tours earlier in the year.
In addition to numbers presented by the choir as a whole will
be a number of solos and other selections.
