County S. S. Rally Thursday—
* Big Money up on Races—Reduced Rates on Railroads.
Every arraogement Is now complete
for the Clare Countv Agricultural
Society fair to be held at Harrison
nexfweek Wednesday, Thursday* and
Friday, September 25, 26, 27.
The business men of Harrison have
■made up $100.00 which will be given
, Thursday to the winners of the trotting and pacing races. Lots of fun and
excitement. Don't fail to attend.
Football.
The gridiron season was formally
opened for this season last Tuesday
when the Clare high school team
strengthened by four of the town boys
met tbe all-Midland team at Coleman.
Two twenty minute halves were
played. In the first halt our boys
held things level, the score being 0 to
0. In the second half Midland put in
big Dickey at half and with his "assistance succeeded in making two touchdowns, the final score being 10 to 0 in
favor of Midland. The Midland men
fftgre older, more experienced, and on
the line greatly outwelgh.ed the Clare
boys and eo our boys did remarkably
well aginst such a team. For Clare
poherty, Clark, Kelly and Sutherland
did most of the earring of the ball.
Mussell played a good quarter and
Jackson did some.fine tackling while
the line-men did well aginst such
heavy men. For instanc McKinnon
thought he had plenty to do to buck
aginst a fellow who weighed in the
ggighborhood of 220. The game was
cleanly played ahd all were well
pleased with the treatment they received, Jenner of Midland was referee and his decisions were entirely
satisfactory. He did not however enforce the rules as to off-side plays.

»5fflce. Mks. Jebome Stevens,
A Young Life Ended,
Carl Weeks Waller, the oldest son of
Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Waller, passed
from thfs life Tuesday morning, membraneous croup or diphtheria being
the cause of his death.
Only a week ago Friday Carl was
taken with a sore throat, but nothing
serious was anticipated until. Sunday
night. The physician was called who
did everything in his power to relieve
the little sufferer but to no avail. He
lingered until about eight o'clock
Tuesday morning when he breathed
his last.
.Brief funeral services were held at
the grave early Wednesday morning,
none attending except tbe family and
those officiating, that the contagion
may not be spread, and little Carl's
first night in his newly made grave
was Wednesday. He was an exceptionally bright boy, his winning ways
making him a favorite among his
playmates, and this being the first of
the family to pass to the great beyond,
the parents are griefstrlcken beyond
the comprehension of all save those
who have sustained similar losses.
The family are now in quarantine
and all have taken anti-toxin, a preventative of diphtheria. Mr. and
Mrs. Jos. Hornung of Mt. Pleasant,
Frank Waller of Marion, Mrs. H. A.
Weeks of Kalamazoo, and her father,
Daniel Barger, of Sturgis, are here or
have been during the week.
Card of Thanks.
We wish publicly to express our
sincerest thanks to the kind friends
who in so many ways expressed their
sympathy to us during our recent
affliction, the death of our beloved
son, Carl.

h urther Preparations for Sunday
School Rally.
Preparations for the coming review
County Sunday Sunday Rally are
rapidly being completed, and Clare
County Sunday School may justly be
proud of tneir response to the. appeal.
"Michigan has already become
famous for these county and district
rally days. They have been held successfully in many of the large counties
and when rightly conducted' are a
great public educator, as well as affording means for utilizing a powerful social agency in the Breaking down
of sectional and sectarian differences
and the unifying of our Christian
Forces".
The Clare County Rally will doubtless prove- to be no exception to this
rule.
An excellent opportunity will be
afforded on the twenty-sixth for attending the County Agricultual Fait,
in connection with the S. S. Rally as
well,
