School Meeting.
There was a large attendance at the
school meeting Friday evening called
by the board ot education to consider
the question of rebuilding the school
house. Discussion was free and
the board in the general plan proposed
seemed but to be voicing the general
sentiment of the tax payers. Mr.
Perry on behalf of the school board
outlined the course they adyocated:
To build at once on the old foundations, using whatever parks of the old
walls as are available. The opinion
was also expressed that the building
could be completed with the money
now in the hands of the board. Pursuant to this suggestion a unanimous
vote was passed instructing the board
of education to rebuild forthwith.
The building is to follow the general lines of the old one with solid
position walls but many changes are
to be made In the Interior. It is to be
heated by" fan furnace heat. This
system completely regulates the heat
no matter what the*wind may be, At
the school meeting this question of
heating and ventilation- w as freely
discussed and atlength on account of
adaptability to the present conditions
ahd on account of economy of fuel it
was voted to use the fan furnace, in
preference to any other. This contemplates the refitting ot the furnaces
now standing which are about as good
as new. To put in a fan steam heating apparatus would entail an additional cost of $2000 plus.the, cost of
erecting a separate building as boiler
house with no advantage in the quality of heat obtained.
A system ot dtv closets is' to be
placed in an annex to the basement
at the north part of the building,
This to be connected directly with the
chimneys so that there will be no
chance for "back draft" as in one or
two cases under the old Smead system.
Without a seweraee system this is

Clare was the scene of an interesting spectacle Monday. Two fellows
not long from Holland traded horses
down at Adams' livery barn, but the
trade had been on only'long enough to
hitch up when one fellow discovered
his horse had the heaves and wanted
to trade hack. To this the'other fellow objected and whipped up his team.
The other grabbed the horse by the
head and the other laid on the> whip,
and away they went tearing down

There are to be. two regular rooms
and two laboratories in the basement
with the heating apparatus and a coal
room. On the first floor there will be
four regular rooms, a high school room
capable of seating 103 pupils and an
office and a recitation room.
Plans, upon which bids may be
made, wiil be in the hands of the
board of education about Monday of
next week. It is expected to push the
work and get the roof on hefore the
yery cold weather, in which case thc
building will be completed by next
April.
It is worthy of note that the general spirit of the board and and community is to keep raising the standard
of ohr schools up to the highest degree
of efficiency.
