POLITICAL
POINTERS
Just put an X in the circle under the
picture of Abraham Lincoln and you
vote, a straight ticket. Nothing
further need be done.
^ V
Sheri'ff Leach has saved money to
every taxpayer. Ills one term has cost
the people of Clare county much less
than did either term of his predecessor. A sheriff can pile up expense for
the taxpayers to meet but Sheriff
Leach has been careful every minute
of the interests of the people and cub
down expenses everywhere.
No word of complaint has ever been
heard of Frank Morrissey's conduct as
clerk and register, nor was there anything but praise of Wm. II. Browne
when he was county treasurer. Both
gentlemen were always attentive, always obliging, always honest., and their
legion of friends will see to it that
they are triumphantly elected on Tuesday next.
■% The demo-populist statesmen who
are out plugging against the republican county ticket tell the voters everywhere they go that over in some other
town there is going to be wholesale
knifing of the republican ticket. It is
always some other towD. These stories of course are deliberate falsehoods,
but the men who tell them trust to
luck that their mendacity will not^be
discovered before election day. Ke-
oubiicans will not be misled by such
campaign falsehoods, but in every town
and in every ward will give loyal support to the republican nominees. That
means republican victory all along tlie
lire
Republicans everywheie who are be-'
ing appealed to by demo-populist candidates and their friends' to vote lor
them, will remember that every one of
these demo-populist candidates and
their friends worked and voted two ;
years ago against President MeKinley j
and that they did all they could to
prevent the return of prosperity that;
has come to the people through tliei
restoration of the republican party to :
power. They are enjoying the fruits j
of republican victory now and we rejoice that good times have come to all
the people—to these demo-populist
candidates even against their votes—:
hut that is no reason why republicans j
should elect them to our cuunty offices. .
For Republicans to Ponder.
Did John E. Brown vote for William
MeKinley two years ago?
Did John H. Richmond vote for William MeKinley two years ago?
Did Ed. Alger or any other Clare
county Alger yote for William MeKinley two years ago?
These are all honorable men, 'tis
true, but didn't they, each and all,
do everything in their power against
the republican party two years ago?
If they had their way wouldn't every
republican in Clare county have been
humiliated by defeat two years ago?
Didn't they, each and all, work from
early morn till late at night during
the campaign two years ago, to prevent the election ol William MeKinley for president, and to prevent tbe
election of every other republican candidate in the county? Isn't it sublime cheek for them to ask for republican votes now, especially when the.
republican ticket is made up of worthy
men. whose earnest work for the republican party and whose splendid
qualifications for office no one has ever
questioned? Will not, every republican
think of these things when he is asked
to split his party ticket and thus help
to build up opposition to tlie republican party in the county of Clare?

Sheriff Leach's re-election is now assured. The tignt against him has
.been bitter and unpriucipied. but the
people have learned that he has protected them and their pocket books
during the last two years. Every taxpayer of Clare county has been saved
money by Mr. Leach's administration
or the office of sheriff. No sheriff eyer
had a better record and no other slier-j
iff of Clare county ever discharged his i
duties with so little expense as he has |
incurred. He has been faithful and|
true, always guarding well the interests of the people. He deserves the j
re-election which will be his on Tues- j
day next. j
The enemy are industriously circu-j
lating the report that Surry township
republicans intend to bolt one or more
of the candidates on the republican I
county ticket. The story is an insult j
to the intelligence and the loyalty of
our Farwell friends who in many a
campaign have proved their sincere attachment to the republican party.
They could not vote against any candidate on our county ticket without
giving aid and comfort to the enemy
and so strengthening them in future
campaigns. The Sentinel takes no
stock in the silly report that the republicans of Surry township are governed in their politics by what the (
enemies of our party want and anx- \
iously strive for. It is nob strange'
that the advocates of demo-populism j
should endeavor to stir up strife
among republicans and bring about!
conditions that could result only to the!
advantage of our enemies, but the re-1
publicans of Surry township will prove j
on Tuesday next, by their votes, that
they are nob in tbe habit of taking
their advice or instructions from their
political antagonists.
You can't vote for MeKinley this
year, but you can vote to uphold his
administration by voting a straight
republican ticket.

death of a beloved member. Our

revere his memory, sincerely mourning
the great loss which we have sustained.
To the family of our deceased brother
we extend our heartfelt sympabhy, and
as a mark of our esteem for him, it is
ordered that our lodge room be draped
