The presentation, of "Imogene, or
Tlie Witeti's SecJ-et'* at Doherty opera
hoiiselast Wednesday and Thursday
evenings, under the auspices of The
Glare Bramatic Club, was a delightful
surprise both-to audience and players.
The amateur actors feared they were
not as well prepared as they ought to
be, mxStihe audience attended with
lainds made up to excuse mistakes for
the sake ol home talent; both were
cMsappoinaed. It has been remarked;
that while the play does not equal
others that have been presented'here,
perhnps, yet it was the best played
piece ever produced by home talent.
To particularize each character
would be invidious, for all who took
part acquitted themselves with signal
ability. Every character seemed to be
.assumedby just the right person. The
^following was the

The "Otner.Aid" generally make a
success of anything they undertake,
and the Christmas fair, held at the
G*. A.B. hall last week Friday and Saturday was no exception to the rule.
Over eighty dollars was realized from
the supper and the sale of fancy work,
books, dolls and other articles appropriate for Christmas time. Tne work
of the fair entailed a great amount of
labor upon the ladies who had the
fair in charge, but all entered into the
spirit of the occasion, and each did
everything in her power to bring about
the grand success. The hall was brilliant with electric light and the bright
colors of the beautifully arranged
arranged booths, in which the smiling
faces of the ladies made attractive
pictures to. lure guests into purchasing
presents -for family and friends. A
splendid supper was served on Friday
evening, and had the charge for this
part of the entertainment been com-
mensuratate with the value of the edibles furnished, the receipts of the
fair would have been ouadrapeed. The
ixrasi© furnished hy Mayor Kirkbride's
orehestra was enjoyed hy all. If
someone should and "What's the matter with the fair?" the answer would
sure!j be "It's all right/'

It is minghty mean to patronize a
merchant who will trust you until
you get so far in debt to him that
you are ashamed to see him, and
then go and spend your cash somewhere else where you couldn't get
credit; but there are people who do it.
The honorable way would be to spend
your cash with the merchant who had
trusted and accommodated you.
W. S. Cooley is agent for a device
called the Little Giant attachment
which can be fitted to any common
wrench and makes a complete gas
pipe tool. It is just the article every
farmer should have, not only «for well
work but will also come very handy in
a variety of ways, as for instance, in
gripping a rolling bolt while a burr is
being tightened or removed. Anyone
visiting Dan Grouse's blacksmith shop
or -sailing on W. S. Cooley "can see one.

Evidently there people in every community who will never learn to give
the peddler the ' 'go by." TheSe traveling salesmen do notning to assist a
town. They give nothing to help the
church, scbool or public enterprises,
neither do they pay taxes. They have
nothing in common with our people,
yet, we are sorry to say, there are citizens in this city and community, because the peddler offers his wares at
seemingly low prices, patronize him,
and often to their sorrow. Better
patronize local merchants, where you
are always sure to get your money's
worth.
