Our readers will remember that during last fall the T., A. A. & N. M. and
theD., L. & N. railroad had serious
trouble at Howell, when the former attempted to cross under the trace! of the
latter. The Ashley road finally got
through; but this did not settle the difficulty by any means. The D., L. & N.
road appealed "to the state officials, who
decided last week that the T., A. A. & N.
M. had a right to cross under the D., L.
& N. track; that the crossing must bo 18
feet wide in the clear; that an iron bridge,
with stone abutments, must be built, and
the grade of the Lansing road raised-
all at the expense of the Toledo road.

repeated several times. Meanwhile
the doctor watched his opportunity,
and a few days ago was rewarded by

closely after, and as the man was
receiving his money, the doctor asked him for his pay; the farmer refused; heated words followed; both left
the bank; the doctor then caused the
man to accompany .rin to his office;
when once (here the doctor locked

debtor that he would make mince

If those who owe us will pay up we promise to pay the money right out again for paper, ink, help, etc. Our readers may- have heard it mentioned in time past that it takes money to run a newspaper, etc. Our local contemporary, the Democrat, has entered upon its third volume under most favorable auspices, and with none but prosperous symptoms. The Pbess extends its congratulations upon the Democrat's past success and future bright prospects. Our readers will remember that during last fall the T., A. A. & N. M. and theD., L. & N. railroad had serious trouble at Howell, when the former attempted to cross under the trace! of the latter. The Ashley road finally got through; but this did not settle the difficulty by any means. The D., L. & N. road appealed "to the state officials, who decided last week that the T., A. A. & N. M. had a right to cross under the D., L. & N. track; that the crossing must bo 18 feet wide in the clear; that an iron bridge, with stone abutments, must be built, and the grade of the Lansing road raised- all at the expense of the Toledo road. The latter protests, and are preparing to go to the U. & supremo court; but the board will try and figure out some way to enforce its decisions, •j/ A*rvtO*U-*^p'r.-H_5J,COP_ |
