An axc^mge truthfuPy remarks that
a country editor needs more than a
brainy ability to write to make a success
of a country.newspaper. He muet labor
day and night, accept everybody's advice
and do as he pleases, or rather'as he can-,
and in accordance with his best judgment. If he attempts to please every
reader he will "get left," and the police

The *pai*cipitents deserve much praise,
especially Miss Alice Wells, Mr. McNam-.
ara and Mr. Smith and son, Will who
took the parts of the two "nigs" in fine
shape. Mt. Pleasant has some first-class
talent and we hope to see them again in
the near future.
Dr. Carpenter reports the following:
Mrs. Heath, a lady whose years number
among the seventies, is very sick at the
home^of her daughter, Mrs. A. W. Mc-
Intyre. Bnrdette, a lad of about eleven
years, son of E. S. Hosmer, of the south
side, is sick with. scarlet fever. Miss
Maggie Kadie, ©f Vernon, is ill with erysipeloid. Two daughters, aged live and
seven years, of A. McGomb, living near
Wilson's old mill in Vernon, are down
with lung fever. John Duncan, an aged
gentleman^ of Vernon, slipped on the ice
one day this week, fell and severely hurt
his hip and shoulder. H. W.-Piercejwho
has been confined to the house for a couple of weeks with an injured and swol-
. len limb, has recovered sufficiently to be
1 upon the streets with the aid of a crutch.

scene and the audience were "deeply interested in the play, when the alarm of
fire was given". Many express themselves greatly disappointed in not being
able to witness • the entertainment. If
the company visit this town again, as
they say'they will in the' near fetures
they will be greeted; by a large crowd.
John Campbell, an employe on .the
Flint & Pere Marquette railroad, was
severely injured last Thursday evening
near Lake Station. Helwas standing between two log Cars with 4 foot on each,
when they pulled apart, he falling between them. One car backed over him
and dragged him a considerable distance
under it, crushing and bruising his body
an d head. He was taken 'to his horn e in
East Saginaw.
At Harrison on Friday Judge Hart
took the case of the People vs. W. §,
Baxter from the jury deciding there was
no cause of action. It will be remem-
;bered that several months since Baxter,
who is a Saginaw man, its agent for other
parties purchased from %. P. Honing, of
Clare, lumber valued at f 818, which was
shipped to this city. H. W. Sage & Co.
of West Bay City, replevined the stock
claiming it had been cut from Iog^s stolen
from them. Baxter, who had paid $100
on account refused to pay the balance
and Horning swore to a warrant charging him with obtaining stock under
false pretences.

work upon, the extension of the T. & A:

are now only waiting for the snow to
disappear and the frost out of the ground
when active operations will commence.
The road will cross the river at this
place, landing on the west side near the
cemetery. The extension of this road,
together with the many other improvements now contemplated will not only
give employment to a large number of
laborers, during the coming summer, but
give our town quite a boom, and make
business good for the next year at least.
