ten cent supper next Tuesday evening
at the home of Henry Ort, on 6th
street. All are kindly invited.
The highway commissioner deserves
credit for the repairs on the road between Clare and the Hinkle school
house, as it was in a bad condition.
Mrs. B.E. Kramer went this week to
Visit a brother in Saginaw county and
to meet and visit with a sister from
l-few York who is on her return from
Chicago.
W. T. Weir was at Saginaw, Tuesday, arranging for the shipment to
Clare of a quantity of furniture from
his former home at -Carrolton, a suburb of Saginaw.
C. H. Edwards, the dentist, will be
in Gladwin, July 24, prepared to do all
kinds of work in his profession. This
will be the Doctor's last trip out of the
city until L_Tovember first.
A swarm of bees crossing Main street
this morning afforded a brief ripple of
excitement. Several business men
gave chase, and after throwing sundry
handfuls of sand into the midst of the
flying honey--makers, brought them to
a halt, but did not succeed in making
a capture.
J. LH. Galliver left Monday for Saginaw, where he was joined by his parents, and continued to IsTew York. If
his father stands the journey pretty
well they will continue to Europe*,
otherwise they will spend the summer
at some of the Atlantic seaside resorts. Mrs. Galliver will remain, at
Stratford, Dnt.
. A "woman's voting club" has been
organized at Cadillac. That's the proper caper. We believe the women by
study and practice will soon understand
and carry out their part, as well and
better than most of the male sex. ■ An
annual school meeting is drawing near;
we hope all the qualified women of the
district will avail themselves of the
privilege given them by the state law
makers.
Yesterday's thunder storm did no
serious damage in the city, so far as
we can learn. The nearest approach
to a easuality was at the home of Jay
Sogers. Mrs. Eogers was sitting i£_
the house caring for the baby, when a
ball of lightning seemed to come down
through the house into the room where
she was, rendering her helpless for
some moments and temporarily paralyzing her. A man working in the

A large share of Clare's population
contributed to the immense crowd at
| Saginaw, July 12. The crowd was considered by far the largest ever in that
city.
The Maccabees have beautified the
appearance of their hall by putting in
a very neat and handsome $30 antique
oak desk, which will be used by both
sir knights and ladies.
We understand Mt. Pleasant people
would like to know where alt of their
Eourth of July money went .to Land
have commenced proceedings to find

Geo. Hersey returned yesterday from
Chicago, his wife and son James having returned a week ago. Mr. Hersey
visited relatives at Trenton, Mo., before returning. He was at the exposition on the day following the recent
disastrous fire.
Two enterprising young men from
Ithaca, named Cbvart .and Smith,
were in Summerfield township last
week and located a sheep ranch. These
young men are intending to go into
the wool growing business quite extensively.—Cleaver.

a few days' visit with his parents in
Yernon and friends in this vicinity*
"Jim" is foreman for W. E. Currie,
formerly of Clare, who has the contract of making the north-east end of
Belle Isle into a summer resort. The
Detroit L_Tews of a recent date contained a big write-up of Mr, Me_£ay!
and the work he is doing there, devoting about two columns to the subject, f
in the way of reading matter and cuts,
showing various scenes on the island.
In speaking of the Eourth of July
exercises at Marion, the Dispatch has f
the following: "Hon. D. LE. Alward
of Clare delivered an exceptionally fine
address in this village during the campaign last fall and it was because of
this that the committee were led to
believe he could make a fine Eourth
of July oration. In this they were not
disappointed, many who heard him on
Tuesday declaring that his was the
best they had ever heard. Mr. Alwarct
was accompanied by Eev. S. A. Long
of the Clare Congregational church,
who upon invitation of Eev. Stevens,
the chaplain, assisted in the devotional exercises and also spoke at the vet*
erans* banquet, whicli took place at
the-close of the exercises,1*
