Mrs. Walton who has been *visiting
friends in this locality for the past
two weeks departed for her home in
Shephard this (Eriday) morning accompanied as far as Mt. Pleasant by
Misses Edith and Jessie 0_idd who are
attending the teachers' .examination

Last Wednesday while Holtz &
Conrad's hay press was moving across
the "old fill" they nearly met with a
sad fate. As they got to the-foot of
the Oliver hill the whole rig consist-j
ing of press, wagon containing attachments and covered _arriage drawn by
two teams slid down the slope'over;
the fill 20 feet below- It was a narrow
escape however, al_aough there was a
$50 job let on the fill this fall. It is
,yet a very dangerous place and should!

driver to the ground. Still he held
onto the lines until he was dragged;
about two rods when he was compelled;

which was badly j broken up and was'
found stalling in a fence corner about;
1 mile wesijof town on the county line;
road. Mr jBodgers was but slightly'1
bruised and was heard to remark that!!

of the state hais purchased 50,000 feet
of peelled hemlir-ck logs of Godlop Zin-
zer and Mr. Rady has taken the job of
putting them into Sam Hights mill.
