tertainment that has been presented to
the people of this place iri a* long time
past. The hall is a large one and was
filled almost full of people; In fact 'twas
the biggest crowd we have ever seen
turn out to an entertainment in this
town. The boys were repeatedly cheered and called back upon the sta^e to
render a second time some production
that had pleased the fancy of the audience1,. The boys did remarkably well,
they made no blunders and each rendered his part in a manner that would have
done credit" to a/professional. If they
happen tbis way again we can assure them a hearty welcome. We also
heard several complimentary remarks
upon the music furnished by the orchestra, which', is'well merited. The stage
and scenery is also a new addition to the
hall. The stage is commodious and
finely decorated, the scenery is first-class
and now we have an opera hall second-to
none in any town of our size In northern
Michigan, thanks to the enterprise of the
G. A. B. boys. We have promise of
more fii'St-elass troupes In the near

Say, Mr. Democrat, if you want-to
see a fine looking, elegantly uniformed",
and well trained band just come to Harrison, and, we can say without, hesitation,
that their betters can't be found in
Northern Michigan.
Our streets look like summer was coming, indeed, Dust flying on one side,.
and mud sticking on the other.
Jonah Deremer is our new marshal,,
and he seems to be generally liked.
The M. E. church is being papered and
fixed up very nicely, quite metropolitan
in fact.
The Band Concert last Saturday evening was better than was anticipated, and
the large audience was simply deh'ghted,
to say the least. . " " *
Since election our town has settled

prospering.
Ball playing on our streets is the rage.

A eorresj_iondent from Han ison writes
the following to the Saginaw Courier
which appeared ih Wednesday's issue:
I saw an item in reference to the rail-
road business of Evart for the month of
March. Evart may beleonsldered up in
the pine lumbering country, yet its business is nowhere compared t© this place.
This branch of the Flint & Pere Mar-
cfuette "Eailroad is not lined with passenger and log trciin business without some
showing of results. I have learned that
no less than 2,987 cars of-logs and 28 cars
of lumber and other freight, amounting-
to 28,900,000 pounds, were sent from this
station during" the month of March..
Ticket business, nearly .§1,200; freight
forwarded, oyer $22,000, and freight received, $1,255, makjng the total business
over $24,61)0 for March; and two men are
all the station help furnished by tbe
company. What station can beat that?
Wm. Hayes, one of "Sir. - Mosteller-s
men, formerly of Saginaw, died of quick
consumption and was buried at Harrison
Tuesday by the I. O. O. F. He leaves a
wife and five children. -
The M. E. Church is closed for the
purpose of papering and other repairs.
The Catholics are getting their material on the ground ready to put up their
chuivh in a few weeks.
The village has heen full of woodsmen for a few days past,-and the- saloons
are having a harvest.
JSTo wondei
the
saloonists kick so hard against the
amendment, for they know woodsmen
like beer and whisky, and as long as their*
money lasts, they can get it.
A Railroad Bicker*
East * Saginaw, April 11.—Dr. H. C
Potter, general manager of the F. <& P;
M. road, told the Detroit "News correspondent this afternoon that the Toledo,
Ann Arbor & "Northern Michigan railroad company has made overtures to the
F. & P. M. to purchase so much of the
Hut lisqn branch of the latter company
as lies between Harrison Junction ano
Hjarrlson, 14 miles. The question Is now
being considered. If the sale Is made
the F. <& P. M. would probably build the
road from Clare, connecting with what
is called tlieir Houghton Lake branch.
The feasibility of this scheme is now
under consideration.
