committee who were in the southern
part of .the state last week inyestigating
the creamery business. ai*e of the ppin- *
ion that a creamery "would not be a very
lucrative investment in Clare, at least"
for the present. The cost of the machinery and building for" the mannfaC"

with a fever at the home of Mrs. J. Cr

had to give up and took to her bed. 'Tis
hoped she may soon recover.

AN ENCOURAGING OUTLOOK,
Merchants and business men generally
I are well pleased with the present tone bf
the market and prediet a successful
season.. In many lines, while there is
not a boom, a steadily increasing trade is
shown, orders are coming in freely and
collections are easy. The real estate
agencies are active and sales and transfers
of residence and business property are of
daily occurence. The action of the
inter-state commerce law tended to
check activity in commercial circles
during the earlier part of the month, but
no serious trouble is feared, and the tide
of prosperity will roll on unhindered as
the new order of things becomes part and
parcel of the daily routine of business
life.—Saginaw Courier.
A HINT TO UNCLE SAM.
The British lion had his ardor cooled
last evening. 'Twas a piece of England's
aristocracy in the shape of a tramp
printer, who applied to the Democrat
office the first of the weeic for alms and a
night's lodging. We took him in, give
him the best we had for two or three
days, when he became rather dignified
and wanted the earth (or the whole
Democrat office and its fishing grounds)
He couldn't get it, set up a roar and tread
upon the toes of the American Eagle;
she flapped her wifigs and the lion received a severe slap across the jaw. The
lion left, swearing vengence and struck a
bee-line for a justice office. As he has
not beek seen since, he probably took the
parlor-car on the first train for the next
town. -1 •'
