According to the State crop report just
issued, as well as all other reports, the
Condition of wheat in Michigan is better
than it has been at this season for years.
A provision of the law is • that every
person owing property who plants trees
on the highway may receive credit for
25 cents for each tree on his highway tax.

The Michigan Senate has passed a bill
prohibiting dealers from selliag milk
from which the cream has been removed,

A meeting of base ball cranks was held
at the town hall Monday evening for the
purpose of organizing a club. Messrs.
^Sutherland, Dawson and Doherty were

were appointed to organize the club, and'
the players were given power to choose
their manager, captain and other oficers.

effect that, '-to -allay further controversies and doubts regarding the postmaster-
ship at Clare, Mr. Kirkbride could inform
his friends that his appointment had been
forwarded and only awaits the signature
of the president, which it will probably
receive sometime during the next two
weeks J' The news was warmly welcomed by Mr. Kirkbride-s friends, while
those who were grooming other candidates took the matter somewhat to the
reverse. The Democrat is not prepared
at present to indulge in any comments
on the matter, other than that Mr. Kirkbride is a courteous and popular gentleman, and will without doubt make a
good man for the position. We understand ihat he will rent the building formerly occupied by;Ed, White's jewelry
store and transfer the office to that place.
