Josiah Horning received a telegram
Tuesday announcing the death of John
Eeist at his home at Williamsvilie,
ST. T.', the funeral to occur today. Mr.
^Eteist was the proprietor of a grist mill
in Clare a few years ago, and has many
friends here who will be pained to learn
of his death. Mr. Horning departed yesterday morning to attend the"f unc-ral.

Chippewa Valley railroad, reached Big
Eapids this morning in response to a telegram from President Monjo to receive
orders .here. This afternoon's mail
brought him full and explicit orders from
Attorney Busche to proceed at once with
final location, take.possession of certain
property for his own residence, request
immediate vacation of certain buildings,,
locate the line through certain lots and
premises, start .his bridge at .a. given
point, so as to bring the same across the
river'to pass under the second span of the
Maple street bridge, and prosecute the

The local option bill as adopted, makes
it the duty of the county clerk to call a
special meeting of the board of supervisors, upon the'written petition of one-flfth
of tbe county for au election upon the
question of prohibition. At the meeting
the clerk'must lay .the petitions before
the board, and it is then the duty $f the
board to call a -special election. Election must beheld on Monday, not less
than forty or more than sixty days from
:eral election daj\ The comity clerk
must have the ballots printed and supply
them to each election district. When
the question bas once been submitted it
can not be submitted again within two
years thereafter. ' -^
A serious and painful accident hap,-(
pened about 10 o'clock a.m. la^tFridayJ
to Frank Badgley,*£ MvOf 16 or 17 years
of age, who's home is near Lansbigvilie.
He . was at work with a young man
named Mcintosh, pealing bark. The
two were engaged in sawing down ahem*:,
lock tree, which, when it commenced to
fail, split up the stump. They started to
run away. Young Badgley stubbed his
toe and fell, and the butt of the tree,
which lodged and shot back oyer the
stump, caught his left- leg:, rendering a
compound fracture about three inches
above the ankle. Dr. Todd was called to
attend, and repor.s the young man jn-as
comfortable a conditien as could be expected under the circumstances.
