*A Farwell man cut timber on
another man's land. Cutting the
logs up into shingle bolts he sold
them and when the owner replevin-
ed them, he admitted stealing the
timber but the intelligent jujy
brought in a verdict of "no cause
action."
John Garchow sustained serious in-
jury while at work loading lumber
at T. P. Homing's mill Friday. His
fellow laborers desiring to move the
car, started It and Garchow being
busily engaged did not notice -their
movements. Two car wheels passed
over his foot, badly crushing th

Walter Blondin a laborer em
ed in Bust's camp was thrown off a
load of logs Monday afternoon, striking his head violently against the
frozen ground and producing concussion of the brain. It" was at first
thought that the accident would
result fatally but latest reports are
favorable to recovery. He was taken to the Flint hospital.
A defective chimney in a South
side tenement house owned by Henry Trevidick and occupied by John
Dunigan, caused a fire Monday morning. Owing to the fact that a large
number of voters were at the polls
over the engine room, the engine
was quickly got to the scene of the
fire and it did effective work, soon
extlngushing the flames. The damage to building is estimated at $200.

ner, the contest to come off either in
Saginaw or Mt. Pleasant within 8
weeks. • ■
"In the light of recent developments at Harrison we are constrained to believe that the remark attributed to J. L. Potts in the late campaign that the admission of certain
ones to the bar of Clare county was
"a disgrage to the bar," was one of
the soundest propositions that Mr.
Potts ever laid down.
One ofthe firms to whom Zemon
& Sable gave a chattel mortgage on
their stock,® has commenced a suit
against Sheriff Graham to recover,
the amount of the mortgage. Most
of the legal questions Involved in the
Zemon <& Sable trouble will come up
iri the trial of this suit and both sides
will make a sort of a test case of it.

The grand Jury has not been at
work this week, Judge Hart having
been compelled to adjourn court
last Saturday until next Monday.
Last week the county treasury rob-
bery case, the iniquity of the Carr
shebang at Harrison, and the moon-
shining about Clare, were inquired
into, several witnesses have been examined in each case. About forty
witnesses from Clare are subpoenaed
on the timber matter and all are required to be on hand again Monday
morning.

Camp at the Congregational church,
The building was crowded and the
ceremonies were rendered very im*
pressive. At the cemetery an affect*
ing incident took place, one of the
sisters of the dead child being nearly
crazed with grief and having to be
carried away from the grave. ..

Pat Norton of Harrison was arrested and taken before the United rent Spot's rink.
States court at Betroit charged with\ :v0ss chrl^ie Fick fell and injured
selling liquor without a license.
Morton has long been in the business acting as Harrison agent for a
Betroit beer firm and had not supposed that a license was required of
him. The case was bought to settle
the question for the benefit of the
department and Norton's conviction
being secured, sentence was suspended,, The Betroit firm pay's Norton's
expenses in the case.
