Godey's Lady's Book for August is
a^delightful number, handsomer in
appearance and more generally satisfactory than any of its predecessors.
Every month seems £0 mark a stride
InThe progress"of this popular magazine. A sries of letters describing the
trialsof"one pressed into service to
write another's love-letters, under the
title of "A Postscript," j are particularly good0 Godey's never looked
better than it looks now. In this day
when so many old publications are
verging toward decrepitude and dotage, it is a pleasure to find one that
defies the march of time, and still
preserves its prestige, its vigor and
freshness while the years roll on.—
That all may be convinced of its merits, the publisher offers-to send the
book for the remainder of the year
for 75 cents. J* H. Haulenbeek, P»

The Register shows the untruth of
the statement of a Mt. Pleasant Tribune correspondent that Farwell is
weeping over the loss of the T,, A.
A,, &iST. M. R. R., and that Mr.
Ashley never even made Farwell
a proposition. A letter from Mr.
Ashley is published showing that he
has been in communication with the
Farwell committee and that there is
a chance yet ofthe roads striking our
sister village.
Duncan Mackensie, one ofthe soap
men who operated in Harrison the
day of the circus in May, 1884, has
been arrested at Kingston, Ont., for
complicity in the county, treasury
robbery. Under Sheriff Mack has
gone to Kingston where he will be
joined by Sheriff Graham as soon as
the necessary papers for Mackensie's
extradition are prepared, when the
prisoner will be brought back to this
county for trial.
If The Pbess publishes a piece of
Harrison news when the facts reflect
discredit upon some Harrison tough,
or if we dare to refer facetiously to*
any person or thing at the county
seat, the Standard at once flies into a
passion and reads us a leture, seeking
to convey the idea that this paper is
hostile to the interests of Harrison,

When he learned of the complicated condition of affairs Mogg at once
demanded that Robinson take the
child away, which he did Wednesday, going with it to. Mt. Pleasant
with the avowed intention of placing
it in the poor house, if the authorities
would permit it. ■
On account of. Die. many rumors
that are afloat concerning the case,
the good people of the Lansing settlement are very indignant and are not
at ail backward in expressing their
opinions, which, they claim, are to a
considerable extent confirmed fey
facts previously known.
The Pbess forbears to give publicity to the stories which charge a re-.

Clare whose sympathies are with the
strikers by a large majority^ The
latest news is that all is quiet, no

their demands for '"IO hours a day's

will be successful.
