Board of Registration of the Township of Grant will meet at the Town
Hall in. said township on Saturday
the 3rd day. of April, 1886, ior the
purpose- of correciing the registration
snd registering all persons making
application who may be qualified to

Several witnesses including the,
train hands were examined and a
verdict.was rendered that deceased
was drunk and walking on tbe track
when the train struck him. Some
claim that this does not fully exon-
eaate the company from blame and
there is a probabilty that an action
for 'damages may be brdught.
Mr. Perry was a member of the
mason ie fraternity aiid had been a
resident of Loo mis for 12 years. He
leaves a wife and one child. The
funeral was held this (Thursday)
afternoon at the M. E. church, Elder
Threadgold officiating.

George Maxwell, of Wise township three miles east of Clare, retired
last night in usual good health. At
4 o'clock this morning his wife was
awakened by his making some peculiar noise when she found that he
was dying. He breathed Ids l^st in
a few minutes. Dr. Tooley had
been summoned from Clare but he
arrived too late to be of service.
** Deceased was aboufc 30 years old,
the son of Wm. Maxwell. Less than
two years ago he was married
Miss Caddie Lansing.' The

The exhibition -• of ■ bicycling *by
Louis Goodman of Birmingham at
•the Opera House rink on last Saturday evening? attracted a large crowd
ofspectators who were unanimouse
in voting it the* best ever given in
Clare.
Several new comrades were mustered in by Hancock Post, G. A, R.
on Wednesday evening. The Post
starts out welt and will no doubt
before long number among its members almost every ex-soldier in this
section.
The new Common Council met for
the first time Wednesday evening
and approved the bonds of Treasurer
Ort, Cieek Eaton, Commissioner
Smith and Constable Welch. The
President will appoint the standing
committees at the next meeting.
A. C. Brodie, Treasurer of Grant
township, returned only about $125
of delinquent taxes. Mr Brodie has
collected the taxes this year closer
than they were eyen before collected-
and he frankly says that he was aided not a7 littlo by the fact that the roll
was a good one.
John A, Webb who has been with
Henry Trevididick for a couple of
years, starts in business for himself
this week, having purchased. Chase's
grocery stock. Mr. Webb is a young
man of enterprise and integrity and
one with whom no doubt the people
will find it profitable to do a share
of their trading.
Geo. W. Lee of Clare a couple of
weeks ago got out the frame of a
barn to be erected on his farm an
Vernon and though the mud in the
roads was ankle deep and there was
every indication that winter had left
for good, he waited confidently for
snow on which to haul the timbers
fromnorth of Clare., The snow came
this week and the frame was hauled»
The roof of Huated's three story
Opera house caught fire aboufc two
o'clock Wednesday afternoon. The
hose boys promptly responded to the
alarm and had two streams of water
on the fire in a very brief time. The
water works proved .their worth;
everything worked splendidly at the
engine house. ■„ 3?he fire was soon ex
tingutshed, thus preventing'* a
astrous- conflagration.

The bill of exceptions in the 'Carr
murder case has just been settled and

by the Supreme Court until the Jane -

father decided to send for oneof them.
