Bev. C. H. Beale's lecture at the
Congregational church last Priday
night was the best ofthe course thus
far.- He has the happy faculty of
describing what he saw in the Old
World in a way tliat interested every
listener. The lecture sparkled with
humor, was marked by eloquent outbursts, and aroused in the minds of
many who heard it a desire to read
more of the historic sconces which
had been pictured.
G. A. B. hall on Wednesday evening was the scene of the~first camp
fire of Hancock Post and there was a
large attendance of ladies and gentle-.
men. The occasion was of a social
nature, with maple sugar accompaniments and the Clare cornet; band discoursed some fine music. It was
clearly demonstrated that the G. A. B
boys and their ladies know how to
entertain a company in first class
style and future camp fires when open
to the public, will no doubt be largely attended.

Hatton is unusually quiet—both
mills closed.
Two Vernon politicians came to
blows in an argument over township
matters on the streets of Clare last
Saturday.
The school held closing exercises on
Thursday afternoon, at which time
F. B. Hatch severed his connection
as teacher. Mr. Hatch has many
friends in Hatton who will be sorry
to learn of his decision to leave. The
school shows the results of excellent
instruction and discipline for within
the past three years, no such progress
has been made in so short a time.
An accident occurred on. the 25th
ulti, in E. Park's saw mill. The]
main shaft breaking, drove the connecting rod through the cylinder
and forced * off the cylinder head
which struck engineer Daniels and
threw him violently through the
partition. Mr. Daniels was extremely fortunate in escaping with only a
slight cut in the side. The damage
to the mill is about $200, Mr. Parks
