Xgftsnra, April 28.—Milo H. Dakin is

there was talk of dealing severely with:
hiin fop securing the passage through the]

representing to his fellow members thatj
the common council had approved it J
when in fact the bill passed was radical-::

shE©wdness as well as rascality in it, but
Ms subsequent conduct was Sll rascality
and stupidity.. He made a list of p^yen-
teen members of the House, settin,
site their names numbers ranging*
five to * twenty-five- and assured
Saghiaw folks that the. amounts ihdicjp
must be forthcoming in order to s^pure
the influence and votes of the honorable
gentleman named. Then when confronted with tbe charge of trying to secure
money for the purpose of influencing
legislation he went into a room where
were gathered together the Speaker and
the niembers he had listed, and adiHitted
everything, signing his name to apajper
which is a complete exoneration ot his
fellow members and, a complete condemnation of.himself. Then he went back
into the House and sent a note up to the
Clerk's desk denying- every word of the
charges preferred against him. The seventeen slandered solons are rlspected by
•all who know, theca. >Mr. Burr, of Isabella, was on the list; and he is one of the
last men a sane person would have set a
price upon.
Having secured Bakin's confession of
everything alleged against him the House
proceeded to arrange for his impeach-'
ment and Dakin employed attorneys to
make a defense. Tuesday morning the
great tiial-beg^n. The House was crowded, Bepresentative Goodrich opened* the
case with an outline of what the prosecution expected to j>roye. With much feel-'

The Perry-Tubbs case before the Circuit Court fof Isabella county has been
settled by a compromise. It will be remembered by our readers that a year ago
last March the husband of Mr3. Perry got
intoxicated,and.while in that condition
I was run over by the cars, receiving injuries from which he died. It was alleged that he procured his liquor from Jas.

At the meeting of the Clare county
toachers' association at Harrison May 14,
Prof. Walbridge of Evart will tell the assembled pedagogues "What constitutes a
Man." An interesting program for the
ssssion wffibegarranged for the two days,
Friday and Saturday, and Harrison will
give all teachers attending free entertainment.
Supervisor Durfee, of Frost township,
took four, rebel bullets into his body in
one day, during the rebellion, and yet he
is as spry as many a man of twenty. At
e time he received the bullets he was
even more spry than most men, for he
was making a violent effort to avoid
capture.
It looks now as though the two Clare
papers, that have always been so wonderfully "tame" toward each other, were now
upon the verge of a first-class newspaper
snarl. Well, its lots of fun.—Cleaver.
You're wrong. The Pbees refuses tc be
led into a snarl with its nearest neighbor,
but just "hews to the line, let the chips
fall where they may."
Jim Carr has given $5,000 for his appearance for trial at %e May term of the
circuit court, upon the charge of burning
the Silkworth building at Arnold Lake.
Silkworth was conducting a business
which entered into 'lively competition
with the "Devil's Ranehe" at Meredith,
and Carr is said to haye had it burned.
The fire occurred in the night, the in
mates barely escaping with their lives.
The Cadillac people are now confident
that the Toledo, Ann Arbor & Horthern
extension will reach their place by fall,
work has begun at Clare and it is declared will be pushed steadily forward.—Detroit Tribune. -

show not only that Dakin had said his
colleagues were corruptible, and had solicited money with which to buy them, but
that he had lied in attempting to shield
himself. Bte had claimed that he wan
this money to feast his colleagues, but
would be shown that he intended to t#t
the money m his own pocket. This ac
had disgraced the House and put a stain
on it which years alone could wipe out.
Oity Attorney Eaton, of Saginaw, was
the first witness. With the greatest de
tail he told the manner in which Dakin
had first checked off the names without
putting down the amount of money, but
on further request he put down figures.
The total amounted to $125. When Rum-
sey's name was reached Dakin said,
"There's a man that I'll have to giye $25
to." Crowley said, "I've met Rumsey, and
he is a very able man." The restaurant
dinner bell sounded then, and we turned
to go. Dakin put-'the roll call in his
pocket, but I said, "Let me see that roll
again." He handed it to me and I put it
in^my pocket. While we were talking I
took a drink of whisky ahd Dakin took
some sour wine.
