Harrison, Aug. 8.
Last Friday John Bya'n and James
Gafferty were arrested for an assault
with intent to murder Bichard Wy-
raan, keeper of Hatfield's bawdy
house. On examination before Jus-
OSS-mo
tice Hoisingtonthey were discharged
but promptly rearrested, this time for
assault and battery, -They were tried
and convicted- by jury and' sentenced
byHoisington to pay a fine of $50
each, or be imprisoned in the county
jail for one year. The case was taken
to the Circuit Court on certiorari. ,
A.M. Tinker, of Mt Pleasant, is in
town thinking of locating here. He
thinks we havea thriving town.
The teachers' institute closed Friday. All who -attended were well
pleased and felt that they were amply
repaid for the time spent, and that
more such instruction was available.
The instructors asked many times
for the board of school examiners, or
some member of it. Prof. Pattengill
said he would suggest to, the sfete superintendent to concoct some plan to
compel the examiners to attend the
institues, for in his opinion they need
the training as well as the teachers.
The new board of school examiners will meet here on the 28th and
organize for the ensuing year. I am
informed that Thomas W. Averill of
Harrison will be elected Secretary.
A sharp frost did a good deal of
damage about 10 miles north of here
Tuesday night. Buck Wheat,,potatoes*
corn, and tomatoes, and other vines
were in some places entirely' killed.
