that had the Welsh building- burned
the tire could have been got in control before it reached the busine~s
block on the oust side of Main street
below Fourth, but it is not probable
and no one wanted to take the chance.
Property Owners in that block may
be thankful that the engine did such
good work. Thousands of dollars
worth of property in all probability
was saved thereby.
STRAY SI'AKKS.
Tbe fire caught from a spark from
a fire which Berger the butcher had
to heat a kettle of water in the front
yard.
A dangerous delay was occasioned
by the fact that nearly everybody ran
to the fire as soon as alarm was sounded, and forgot ali about the engine.—
Messrs. C. W. Perry and H. 11. Holbrook had thecngineout ofthe house
before help arri ved. This delay will
doubtless never occur again.
The engine worked like a clock
and there was plenty of men willing
to tend the brakes.
Miss Annie Larigc's wardrobe, the
fruit of three years of toil, was entirely consumed.
Kickers, what do you think ofthe
"elephant" now. "
A meeting to reorganize the fire department will be held at Tiik Pukss
office next week Friday evening.—
Attend.
The people of Clare, true to their
past record, did nob.'y.
This Ls thu sixth time Mr. Lange
has been burned out of house and
home. iSuhseription papers started
at once iu his behalf were well tilled,
pledges to ihe amount of over #200
being secured. J. U. Rockafellow
headed the list with $25.
