the greater part of the time at thc
painting business, Mr. Holbrook
was an honest, upright man, and we
do not think he ha'd a pergonal enemy in Glare, which' is saying a great
deal. His death is deeply mourned
by his many friends in Clare, which
was manifested by the large crowd
which paid tribute to his remains on
the day' of the funeral. Mr. Holbrook was a member of the • order of
Free Masons, the funeral ceremonies
being conoucted by that and the order of Odd Fellows.
The cause of his sickness was said
to be from poison derived from paint
whieh he has been handling for a
number of years. About two weeks
ago he submitted to an operation
which* the doctors thought might,
lead to his cure, and 18£ quarts 6f
watery matter, which weighed 27
pounds, was taken from him. This
did not beneflt. him, however and he
sank rapidly. He ■w.- about 58

The disgusting scene of a drunken
white man following an Indian girl
along Broadway, while she was making vain endeavors to ^et away from
him, was seen on onr streets Saturday afternoon. The low actions of
the man caused a hooting crowd of
boys and men to follow along to
watch the proceedings.—Sit. Pleasant Enterprise.

The Mt. Pleasant Enterprise says:
"Maggie Mitchell who has been
playing in Michigan, and people has
been talking about her age. She appears on the stage to be about 25 but
she is 47. She was born in New
.York City September 10,1888, and
rn first appeared on the stage, in thafc
•ity, in the winter of 1850." She
must be a stunner.
