the toll by'lownships to allow the delegates to present tho names of candidates
for the several offices.
Arthur E. Doty, of Hayes, and Frank
Bracey, of Surry, were named for ehcr-
riff. An informal ballott resulted in a
large majority for Mr. Doty, and he was
declared the unanimous nominee of the
convention, which wns greeted by ringing applause. Sir. Doty has been an able
sheriff for thc past two yeavs and his efficient services and his renomination echo
his re-election by increased majorities.
John H. Richmond, a prosperous, industrious and sturdy farmer of Fro3t
township, who is well known throughout
the county for his sterling qualities, was
unanimously nominated for cleric by acclamation.
William E. Aldrich, thc present efficient register of deeds, was unanimously
nominated by acclamation, and his reelection to office is a foregone conclusion.
For treasurer, John Gordon was the
unanimous choice of the convention. His
nomination for that important position
has been conceded for tbe past several
weeks. Mr. Gordon lias represented the
popple of tho township of Hatton on the
board of supervisors from year to year
and is thoroughly conversant witb county
affairs, His honesty and capability is
beyond question, and he is just the man
for thc trustworthy position.
For the important position of prosecuting attorney no better nomination could
have been made and the convention did
a wise act by unanimously declaring William A. Burritt as its choice. For four
years, 18S5-8, he was the able prosecutor
of Clare, county and conducted the affairs
of the office with honor to himself and to
his constituents. He has an extensive
practice, not only in Clare, but in the
surrounding comities and his success is
phenominal. He will receive the united
support of thc democracy of Olare county
and be elected to office by an unprecedented majority.
William W. Harper received the unanimous vote of the convention for the office of county suryeyor. He has tilled
the position for the past two years and
faithfully and carefully performed the
duties involved. He i.s in every way
capable and will be re-elected.
Samuel B. Frary, of Summerfield township, will be the next circuit court commissioner of Clare county. He received
tlie nomination in the convention without a dissenting voice, and is without
doubt the yery man to make a political
corpse or his republican opponent.
Frank McLollan, of Surry, and Joseph
II. Carpenter, of Grant, wero nominated
for coroners, which completed the
grandest ticket ever nominated by any
political party in this county. Democracy's success in Clare comity this fall is
assured. All that is required is for every
believer in Jeffersonian principles to
buckle on his armor and do his duty to
his party and its candidates for the respective offices. Let there not be a dissenting voice. Wise and judicious nominations have been made in every instance and a united pull means that vic-
