society.
The society was organized ns long
ago ns the spring of IH72, and was
made part of the Farwell circuit. A^
no records were kept until within
two years inst past, it is difficult to
ascertain wbo were the original ioem«
bers. As far as can be learned the
first members were the fnmily of John
Uaker, Mrs. Hubcn Smith, Mr. and
Mrs. Harvey Itoorn, nnd Mrs. G. K.
Tucker. They met nt the residence
of G. W. Hoorn, and at tlie little
building now used by Mr, Hubcn
Smith as an office, whore also was
organized the first Union Sunday
School, by Hev. L. Piper, still .1 resident of Ciare. Itev. Mr. Keilly was
the first pastor. Next came Hev. Mr.
Cogshnll, in '72 and '"il, followed by
Hev. Mr. Flomniing, in '73 ancl '74.
Rev. Geo. Donaldson came in Sept.
1H71, nnd was the first resident minister, staying two years, when he was
succeeded by Hev. J. F. McKinley,
and him by Itev. AV. II. Ware, the
present pastor. Hev. McKinley found
the charge poor and small, but built
it up to usefulness f.nd prosporlty, being aided therein by able workers
and fervent christians.
Tho first record dates from the
spring of 1877, when J. C. Hockafollow, «. W. Jetreries, Goo. F. Holbrook, J. W. Calkins, E. ITnicum, E.
II, Bradley and John Past-wore olcct-
