enough left to fence in Michigan and
leavo a big stock in tho yard, This may
seem rather a broad assertion to some,
but if they will take the trouble to figure^
allowing 30 poles to the mile, it can be
readily soon that it ia a low estimate.
Wednesday morning-a Cotoiteb representative had the pleasure of watching
the boys p$t oil a load of 50. 55. and. .60
fooi> poles on to two flat curs, and thoy
were as fin© a lot of poles as ono would
seo in a Me time. It was a sight to
note tho rapid manner in which they
were hustled on to tho cars, and Mr.
Moreland says that ho will defy anyone,
to find a, yard on this terrestrial sphere
of ours, where a car can be loaded any
quicker.

time they receive on an average of 125

This company pays out the year round,
an average ol nearly $150.00 a week for
wages. They operate three other yards,
one in this state and two in Wisconsin.

Tho Calkins, this city,) avenged tho death
of detective Powers, of Grand Bapids,
who was murdered while in tho dischargb
of his duty by one John Andrew Sraalley,
a notorous character, at ono time a resident of Briuton, Isabella Co. He was lo~

by the officers. Tile coroner's jury exonerated Messrs. McBain and Spafford
from all blntrie. $inalley was positively
identified as the murderer of. Powers, and
farther as ono of a gang of train robbers
