Ti_.it Pioneer's Meeting-.
The pioneers hold their supper at the
K. O. T. M. hall this evening. We understand ihat there is considerable dissatisfaction on account of some of the real pioneers of this section not being invited, as
they fall short a year or so of coining under the required limit of 20 years, established at the preliminary meeting. Mr.
A* 3. Eowe settled here in 1887, and cleared" the first farm north of Farwell. He
moved his family to Farwell, and they ate
their first meal at the Woodruff House on
Thanksgiving day of that year. Mr,
Bowe was also ono of the originators of
the scheme to organize a society at this
place, yet he was disqualified, although
he is literally more of a pioneer than
most of those who come under the twenty
year limit. Let us understand the true
meaning of pioneer. A pioneer is a person who goes before and makes the way
clear for others. Now how many of those
present tonight can lay claim to being
Jp-tieers? We do not, of course, mean to
say that in organizing a pioneer society
tho number of years the party has lived
should be wholly ignored; but we do
mean to say that two or three years should
not disqualify a peraon who entered the
forests of Surry township axe in' hand
making it ready for others, or who assisted in making the first roads in our township. Truly ho is apioNEEB, and as su»h
should be honored.—Farwell Begister.
flood Alen and True.
