Northey's drum corps accompanied the
Maccabees to Cadillac yesterday. This
band has gained tha reputation of being
the best of its kind in this part of the
state.
There will be a temperance meeting
Sunday afternoon, June 7, at 4 o'clock at
thp Methodist church tinder the auspices
of the White Eose club. Everybody invited to come.
George Archambolt, who lives south
of the city, was accidentally shot by his
brother a few days Bince. Tne two were
shooting rate.' The wound, which Was in
the leg, is not serious.

Mat Wixom's cirons did not draw a
largo crowd on Monday, but the performances gavo genoral satisfaction. With
few exceptions his attractions were up to
tho standard of oxcellonce that Wixom's
circus has maintained in years gone by.

and handsomely illustrated pamphlet,
entitled. "Bright Spots in Michigan," issued by the F. & P. M. railroad. It
is discriptive oi the many fishing and
pleasure resorts along this popular line,
Eeports continue thafc dynamite is being used in the trout streams north of
tho city. It seems strange that the vigilant game wardens who are creating such
a furore in other counties, do not learn
of the despicable methods used to secure
trout in this vicinity.
As a general thing weather prognostications are not considered of sufficient
reliability to place much dependence in,
but Bey. Irl E. Hicks has gained much
fame as a prophet of the coming weather.
His almanac for 1896 has proven nearly
correct so far.' In fact liis cyclonic predictions for May were correct in every

Tuesday evening.
The council committee in charge of the
bridges in the city are now deciding upon the plans for the bridge across the

Supreme Commander Boynton, tho
"father of the Maccabees," passed through
Olare Wednesday, bound for Cadillac,

mills, was in the city on Wednesday and
secured J. H. Schilling as his agent for

The meeting of the history class, to
have been held this evening, has been
postponed until next Tuesday evening.

The Memorial day exercises, though
not as largely: attendee, as heretofore,"
were very interesting. At 10 o'clook
Hancock Post, G. A. E. and the public
schools, together with delegations from
the K, of P. and Fire Department, headed by Worthy's martial band, marched to
the cemetery where the impressive memorial service of the Grand Army was held
about the soldiers' monument. At the
close salutes to tho dead were fired, the
graves ladan with floral offerings, and the
return march to the city taken up. In
tho afternoon short services were held at
the opera house and appropriate remaiks
were made by Eevs. Long and Choate.

The deceased was known to nearly
every resident in Olara and ."northern
Isabella Counties.- He was a pioneer of
of iJarwell, and years ago. carried on
lumbering quite extensively. J?or the
ten years preceecune" his death ho had
resided in Harrison where he engaged i*a
the saloon business, and also lumbered
most of tho time. Mr, Hinkle was 66
years of age and loaves a wife and two
married sons and daughters. Ten days
before his death ho suffered a fracture of
his loft leg by being thrown from a car
Of logs. Confined to his room, a series of
complications, superinduced by the confinement, attacked him, and Sunday at 11
a, m. he breathed his last. Mr. Hinkle
was beloved by a host of frisnds, as a
whole-souled, generous and enterprising
citizen, The funeral service was held at
the M. E. church Wednesday afternoon,
E9v. Leeman officiating and the remains
were interred in the Parwell cemetery
under the auspices of Farwell lodge,
I. O. O. P., of which the deceased was a
member.

to bail is true only as to the fixing of the

following from Mt. Pleasant: "Carr has
not been released on bail. Bail has been
fixed at *5d,000 with not loss than two ner
more than eight sureties, who must justify in double the amount. The sureties
must appear in open court and justify,
and;v-'--i-J'T.-vill <«ji*vene next Thursday."
