Distriot Attorney Lyon has decided to

are owners of land in counties along tho
line of the F. & P. JS. railroad, which the

of the city guarding the main roads.
The auction on the Kelley farm 'Wednesday was attended by 500 peoplo. The
numerous artioles sold averaged a good
price The sale was net finished but
will bo concluded tomorrow.
County Clerk Hiesman was in Tawas
City on Tuesday attending the official
canvass for the 28th senatorial district.
The canvass showed the total number of
votes to be 10,592, of wlu'oh O. H. Prescott received 6,573 and Chas. M. Garrison
t,018. Prescott's majority was 2,555.
John Broadwell. formerly 'bus driver
for the Calkins, was yesterday sentenced
to 60 days at the county jail upon conviction bpfore -Justice Carpenter of an
assault upon Wm. Hersel. Broadwell
was captured at Thompsonville by lender
Sheriff Mason. The same officer took
him to Harrison yesterday.
The heavest real estate deal in this
section lately, occurred on "Wednesday
whon A. J. Doherty purchased what is
known as the Kolly farm, situated in
Vernon, i% miles south of Olare, of Wm.
Callam, of Saginaw for $10,000, the sale
being Cash. The farm comprises 640
acres of fertile soil, nearly all improved
and uMer a high state1 of cultivation.
It is a most desirable,piece of property,
and ths price is considered very low.
Mr. Doherty will probably ueyotethe
farm largely to stock raising.
Today's Saginaw Courier-Herald says:
"The through freight traffic business
from Milwaukee and Manitowoc across
the lake to Ludington has commenced
on the F. & P. M. and promises to be decidedly brisk during the winter. Steamers Kos. 2, 3,4 and 5 of the company's
fleet will be in commission, as well as the
new car ferry, Poro Marquette, which
will run between Manitowoc and Ludington. Steamer No. 5, which has been under charter running out of Buffalo, is
now on the way to Ludington to take
her place on the line."

Or the past. Last Saturday nearly all
of tho capital stock was purchased by
what is known as the Western Mfg. Co.,
or the association of pail and tub factories
and the plant is now in their possession.
No moro ware will be turned for the,
present at least, the stock of hoop iron,
paints, etc. having alroady been shipped
to Bay City, but the Parmeter Wooden
"Ware Co., of Saginaw, has leased the
plant and will out heading therein during
the coming winter. The purchase of this
plant by outside parties and the curtailment of its output is a serious low to
thia city and it ia to fee hoped that business will reviTe puffioiently to warrant
tha re-opening of the-pliint to the manufacture of ware.
