STATE TREASURER -
ON THE ROCKS!
.//-
m
Millions of people's /Money Tied up by
.y
Failure of life Sieve Balider-Politican.
Counties GetOoe-Half the Primary Money,
with Balance Coming-Sometime.
It is not the desire of The Courier to gloat over the mistakes or
misfortunes of others, but^the circumstances of the present week,
which has divulged the '.'frenzied"
financing done by the treasurer of
Michigan,, affords some excuse to
short reference to the futile effort
of the Democrats of one year ago
to give the people facts similar in
character with ..reference' to the
treasurer's policies as have been
brought to light by the._4bank examiner at this time. With over
$3,000,000 of state money on hand
Mr. Glazier' has 'failed, and with
him two banks iri which he -was a
heavy stockholder. In Chelsea his
bank, with but $1,000,000 capital was
found to contain nearly $7,000,000 of
the state money, and its doors are
closed.
Apparently the treasurer has been
doing a big stroke of business upon
state • money, and the recent
stringency has, brought about tbe
crisis.
• County treasurer Goodman reports that while he has given a
receipt for the full amount of the
primary money due Clare county,
he has received-but one-half the
amount, with the assurance that the
balance "is coming."
It would seem that in the light of
numerous* scandals of this and
other character during recent years
in official life in this state that the
people would soon conclude that
it is time to make a house-cleaning.
