The Courier's sporting editor
has never , taken a course in dog
training, hence is not competent to
prepare an exhaustive treatise upoji
what constitutes the really interesting features of these trial's but in a
general way he has learned that the
trials are simply tests as to the
ability of the dogs to find game birds,
speed in covering territory, the disposition to hold a "point," and intelligence shown in heeding the
commands of the person who has
them in charge. But few birds are
killed in the trials, but the points
named are carefully noted by, the
judges and prizes are awarded accordingly.
The coming trials are for amateurs
only. Professional trainers are
barred and the dogg must be run by
their owners. The judges having
in charge the contests and awards
are as follows: . ■-.
W. J. Baugh, Bidgeville, Ind.
Marsh Byers, Grand Rapids, Mich.
W.E. Warner, Edmore, Mich.
Owners from several states will
be present, many of them will come
solely for the purpose of witnessing
the sport. The drawing for position, occurs on the evening of the
26th, and the-fiel J contests begin on
the following morning. t Following
is a complete list of the entries to
date, which is far beyond the expectation of the officers of the Olub:
