Last eyening Doherty opera house
was packed to overflowing to listen
to the essays, orations and reeita
tions of the fifteen' that have completed tbe work and now enter upon
the struggles of life for themselves.
The program was of a_jnost satis
factory nature and each paf-tcipanT
acquitted himself or herself in a
manner that elicited generous applause. The decorations—white
and blue, were the creation of Mr.
McLeod, of Davy & Go's, and were
most artitistcally.arranged. ,
This evening ihe regular 'com-
mencement occurs, when an address
■will be delivered'by Bev. Lee S.
McOollester, .one of Detroit's most
eminent divines, and the diplomas
will be presented by Secretary
Tatman. Tbe class has deported so
far in a most commendable manner and the people, of the city have
greater reason than ever to be proud
of their institution of learning.
Lack of time makesextended notice
impossible,, but it is enough to say
that the fifteen who leave the Clare
schools this year do so with as high
honors as have ever been accorded
a graduating-class.

The grass doesn't grow in Anderson's drug store, but he sells several brands of stock food. This
probably accounts for the incident
of Monday, which created a furore
in that popular dispensary for a few
moments. . A bunch of fine two
year-old steers were being driven
up the street, when one with more
curiosity than tho rest took tp the
sidewalk near the Citizens bank
and proceeded northward with considerable speed until he reached the
Oity drug store,'when the attractiveness of the windows enticed him to
further investigate. Before Mr,
Anderson could intercept the animal his steership was inside the
salesroom and was walking down
behind the counter. Notwithstanding the expostulations of the nostrum
compounder the animal made the
complete circuit, making exit via
the middle of the store, disturbing
nothing but a few souvenir cards.
In other words, he "Walked rigtit
in, turned around and walked right
out again."

Water Rule Violations!
• • *
We claim our 85c and 50c TEAS possess
all the qualities necessary to make them an
excellent drink.
In another colum appears a notice
from "the city clerk, calling attention to the necessity for living up to
the rules provided by the board of
works regarding the water regulations of the city.
This notice is timely and of great
importance. .It intimates that the
board of public works means what
it says and conveys tbe unmistak-
that able meaning the board will enforce tbe rules as they are published.
It is to bo hoped that the boards
mean what it says.
Itis.an_nn.di£.p_u tabjef act that the
riiles have been " violated, ;a'ndthe-
publlc has been repeatedly informed
of thegreat expense of maintaining
the systpm. It is also notorious
that many of those opposed to the
establishment of a municipal plant
have been the first to violate the
established rules. City clerk
Doherty informs The Cocri-iiCB
that he is conversant with the situa*-
tion and deplores tho fact that good
citizens havu persisted in such
violations.
iSfo water plant can be run successfully and permit such violations, and the action ofthe board of
works is commendatory. The political press and enemies,of the plant
will shortly become noisy about
the ,expense of the present plant,
but the public will not understand
that the violations aro so numerous
and flagrant that it is essential that
something be done to -enforce the
rules. '
If you have 'violated the rules,
don't be surprised if the board takes
summary action, and if it does, consider first whether you are at fault.
Interest gradually increases in
the weekly shoot of the Clare Gun
Club, and the array of spectators
conii_iU6a to iinjt'eftse in numbers.
