Sheridan Stirred Iron Center to Circumference
Over Commissioner's Decision.
The township of Sheridan is just
now tore up over a decision last
Saturday by highway commissioner
Allen discontinuing a road of three-
fourths snilejn length, from what is
known as .Bell's corners to the
BaptiBt church on the, state road,
and near J. R. Herrick's farm, JThe
reasonfpveiiTorthe act Is that the
people voted for it last spring, and
that it does away with the construction of two, new. bridgss costing
$2,000, besides considerable grading.
These bridges are about 20 rods
from each other and are necessitat
ed because of the acute bends in the
Tobacco river.
It is proposed to establish a new
road upon the eighth line north,
where both bridges caH be done away
witb. The township board declares
it has offers ofthe necessary right-
of-way for $150, and an offer to make
tbe necessary grading for $300.
Notwithstanding the vote at town
meeting J. R. Herrick appeared at
the hearing last Saturday with a
remonstrance against the proposed
change sigued by over sixty of the
resident taxpayers of the township.
The commissioner, however insisted that he must follow his original
instructions.
The township ofliceres were represented by C. W. Perry, while
those opposed employed attorneys
Johnson, of Mint, and Lacy, of
this city. It is now declared that
tbe trouble will land in tbe courts.
Since the controversy started a
petition has been* circulated asking
for the removal o£ the school house
in that district, now situated upon
the state road south of the Herrick
farm, to a point north and west.
Everything indicates lively times
in Sheridan before the questions
aro adjusted.

Grandpa Homed Home.
The Detroit Journal of last Saturday had the following to say regarding tbe gait struck by Senator Doherty when he learned* that he was
grandpa for the third time:
"Alfred J. Doherty, general superintendent of the Michigan state
fair and former state senator, broke
away from the state fair officials
and everybody else in Detroit Friday morning and hastened to his
home in Clare, from which he had
received a wire that in all probability he had better return in a hurry.
Either tbe doctor or the nurse sent
it, both Bigned it. Mr. Dohert'y
daughor is the happy mother.
"Two hunderd dollars for her If
it's a boy; $100 for him if it's a girl!
he shouted when received the message, and then bis frieuds couldnt
see him for dust.
It',s a boy, so the word comes
from Clare, and.everybody is doing
well save Mr. Doherty."
