LA WHENCE W. JAOKBON, . JOSEPHINE L. OOUR, ,
At St. Cecelia's church on Wednesday ia'orning a large company of admiring friends witnessed the marriage of one of Clare's
best know), most popular and respected young couples, in tbe
.persons of Lawrence Wiiiiam, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. John A,-
•Jackson, and Josephine Louise, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph L. Cour. ' The ceremony was performed by Bev. Father
O'ConneH. Lohengrin's march was rendered.by Miss Edna Clark,
and Mrs. G. _B. Wells delightfully rendered Hanna's "Mass," and
Luzzi's "AVe Maria," during the ceremony. 'The happy couple
was attended by John Jackson, Jr., and Miss Pearl Oour, brother
find sister respectively, of the bride and groom. !' .
Following the .nuptials a course breakfast was served to
twenty five of therelatives and immediate friends at the home of
the bride's parents. ,
At=2:37 Mr, and Mrs. Jackson left on tho Ann Arbor for a
ten days trip, during which ttiey will visit Detroit, Cleveland and
Niagara, After Oct. 1st they will be at home in apartments in the
Citizen's bank block.
It is unnecessary for Thus Coxtrier to dwell upon the popularity of this couple, now so happily joined for life's journey. Each
is so well and favorably known that comment seems almost uncalled for. Lawrence, Clare born, educated in Clare schools,
employed in his father's business, is deserving of every encomiumuttered by a community proud of- his manhood and sterling woiJth. Josie, full of life, energy, happy thoughts and smiles,
best known behind tbe business desk and as a painstaking and
expert telephone operator, counts in hundreds the friends which
winning ways have brought to her
That their wedded life may be one of constant joy and prosperity is The Courier's best wish.

Tlie County Fair!
Tho big winning scored at the
state fair by Olare county shoqld
encourage renewed interest in the
county fair which occurs at Harrison on the 25th, 26th and 27th insts.
Against innumerable discouragements the Glare county agricultural
society has annually held successful
fairs, and this year promises to
keep up the excellent {[reputation
earned by the management*
The grounds and buildings are
paid for, and no old debts call for
the earnings of 1907. The farmers
ahd business men of the county
should lend their aid to the promotion of this most commendable enterprise. Secretary A. C. Gray, at
Harrison, will furnish all desired
information td prospective exhibitors,,. /
Brant Road Accepted.
Deputy state • highway commissioner Bogers was here on Monday
and formally accepted the miie of
road built in Grant by contractors
Taylor & Geeck, of Owosso, and
upon which the state will pay $500
of the cost. Tbe road was a difficult one . to construct, but the
township board und citizens generally feel that the money has been well
expended and well earned.
This is the first mile of stato road
to be built in this county, and will
doubtless cause other townships to
indulge iu similar efforts for the
improvement of the highways.

Geo- E. BJEJ^NEii.
The comparative figures for July
and August upon the cost of fuel
for operating the municipal water
plant should convince the most
skeptical, that one of the wisest
moves ever made by the officials of
Glare was the installation of the
gas producer, purchased of , the
Traverse City Iron Works, The
price of'gasoline has soared so
rapidly during the summer that the
contrast in cost between- the lyro
fuels Is very plain, For July,
running entirely upon gasoline the
cost was $145,62, For August" the
total cost for gasoline and gas used
was biit,$6242, J^liouM. also "be
understood that the variety of coal-
best adapted for producer use has
not yet arrived, and during August
a small amount, of this variety was
obtained in Evart at an increased
price,; a,nd during a . greater portion of the month chestnut coal was
used, and which is not regarded as
desirable for producer use..
L. E. Davy, bf tjbieboard of works,
and who has given careful attention
to the matter of fuel, is- confident
that with the pea coal at regular
prices during August the expense
would noc have exceeded $45. Mr.
Davy does not hesitate to venture
the assertion that the annual fuel
expense with proper coal will not
exceed $365, or $1.00 per day.
If this prediction proves true Clare
can truthfully boast of the most
economical water plant in the state.
Baptist Society Notes,

number coming early for the praise
