Wm. Prentis, of Lake George,
was. a Clare visitor on Tuesday.
Mr. Prentis is located upon the
ranch owned by G.' E. Benner and
G. W_ Easier, of this 'city, and the
ftvatoi the week killed his fourth
bear for this season, Bruin is decidedly numerous in that section
this year.
J38. Morrison, a Surry township
bachelor, aged 65 years, was killed
by the P. M. passenger U'ain east in
Farwell on Monday morning. Mr.
Morrisoh was walking upon the
track and being deaf did not hear
the approaching train* He had
lived in Surry about two years.
Mr. and Mrs. A. S, Rhoades arrived home from their New Jersey
trip on Monday, feeling well and
happy, and glad to get back to Clare,
Mr. aud Mrs, Frank Falk are
home from a three.weeks trip in the
Upper peninsula.

The* Grand Rapids Herald of
Thursday last contained the following mention of the marriage of a
well known young-man who formerly resideded in Clare:
A pretty wedding took place at the
home,of Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Heth,
824 Cottage Grove avenue, Wednes*
dav evening when their daughter,
Misb Jessie Groom, was married to*
John Elliott. The ceremony was
performed by the Rev. John Gordon.
The rpothB throughout the .'house
were , attractively^ decorated with
flowers, vines _ and potted plants.
The bridal parlor was decorated ih
green.and white and a, large floral
wedding bell was hung just over the
improvised altar.- The wedding
march was played by Miss Edith
Waikin and Miss Qrilla Andrews,
piano and violin, and juqt before the
ceremony Mrs. Charles Heith sang
"O Promise Me." The bride wore
a gown of pale blue chiffon over silk
of the same color and carried bride
roses. Miss Emma Groom, the
bride's sister, \K«s bridesmaid.
Emerson Elliott, brother ' of the
groom, was best man. Chester
Merriman and Miss Loie Tyler were
master and mistress of ceremonies,
The dining room, in which refreshments w.ere served after the
ceremoney, was decorated' in' red.
Those who assisted in serving" were
Miss Blanche Lardie, Miss Tina
Ladeau and Miss Electa Wilson.
Others who assisted about .the',
rooms-were Miss Marjorie J^erenia.
and Miss.Melissa Rathbun.
Mr.- - and Mrs. Elliott went to
housekeeping at once in -thier "hew
home on Briggs avenue.
Late information is to the, effect
that Robert Thompson,- the genial
ticket clerk of the P; M. R. R. in
this city, and who has been taking a
vacation, "is dangerously ill with
relatives in Elwood, Ind. ■ No details are obtainable.
The county fair has been a success
this-week, so far as exhibits are
concerned. Careful observers say
that the showing is the beBt ever
made, and the attendance has been
excellent. ' .' . ,
The lady friends of Mrs. Jos.
Cour tendered her a reception before leaving for St. Marys, Penn.j
and presented her with a handsome
leather hand bag and a silver thimble. *
. W. A. Feighner this week moved
his family to Coopers ville, where he
haa accepted a pastorate of the F.
M, church.
Dr. and Mrs. Joel Jones, of Saglow, visited friends and relatives
in and near Clare tbe first of the
week.

The board of county canvasers
drew pay from the treasury of Clare-
county last Tuesday, for determining how many votes had t>een cast
for the candidates for delegates to
the constitutional convention. The
report discloses that the highest
number pf votes polled for any per-
sbii was 18S, and.those were for
Henry H. Woodruff, of Roscommon, so'this number must be the
tofalof-thfe'number of voters who
exercised their right. That the
