Committee Now Inspecting
County Houses.
The committee appointed by the
board of supervisors at the October
session has been spending the week,
in company with Secretary Harpui*
of the superintendents oi the poor,
in selecting a farm that would be
suitable for the purposes required,
and while no report has as yet been
filed This Coubieb was last evening advised by those connected
with the matter that the east one-
half of section thirty-five, of Bedding, had been found to meet all
requirements and that the committee would recommend Its purchase at $8,000, or $25 per acre. It
is owned by J. H. Spears, who has
farmed the same for several years,
and is found admirably adapted for
the county's needs, AcrosB this
tract tuns a fine stream of water,
and Mr. Spears has recently cqn-.
etructed a basement bam 40xC6 feet
and which would be all the county
would need for many years, The
land is in the midst of a hardwood
district^ is of the best to be found
in the central portion ot the county.
During'its junket the committee
v-siied and inspected the following
farms: Mills farm in Frost; Spears
•fsraii-in .Bedding} Dean farm in
Greenwood; Johnson farm in Greenwood; Bracy and Daugherty farms
in Hatton; Gebhart farm in Greenwood; Brewer fai m in Grant. .
Messrs, Jackson and Harper left
this ttiornbig to - inspect several
county houses in southern counties,
with "a view to preparing plans.-in.
time for the December session of
the board.
There appears at present to. be
some question as to the authority
of the board to make the expenditures necessary without a-vote of
the people, but this has not been
definitely settled. The Coitribk
will keep its readers fully advised
as to developments.
