ECOND ANNUAL FAR
EDITION
WE BELIEVE IN THE FARMER!
WE BELIEVE that the nation's prosperity depends directly on
the prosperity of the farmer . . . that the purchasing power of
America's millions in great cities and little villages alike —the
purchasing power of the dollar itself—depends on the income of
the nation's farmers. We believe that as farming is this nation's
greatest single industry, so should the welfare of the farmer be
the nations greatest concern.
WE BELIEVE that no national policy can succeed unless it has
the farmer's sympathy and interest, that no important national
issue can be accomplished without the farmer's support. We believe that the farmer is the most important and the most powerful man in America today. In spite of the phenominal growth of
industry, in spite of the mass population of the great cities, the
nation's gross farm income is over eight billion dollars annually
—roughly, one-seventh of the total national income. No industry,
no other group of industries, neither steel nor motors nor railroads nor building nor oil even approaches it.
WE BELIEVE that the farmer is America's largest single market. No product that is made and sold can achieve truly national distribution unless the farmer uses it. Millions of people are
working in automobile, radio, clothing, furniture and electric
appliance factories today because the farmer has been convinced
that the products of these factories are essential to his w-elfare,
comfort and happiness.
WE BELIEVE that American democracy is secure only as long
as the farmer is secure, that national prosperity is possible only
if the farmer is prosperous. We believe that the farmer's interests are our interests, the interests of every advertiser and business man, the interests of every American. We believe that on
the maintenance of farm purchasing power depends the fulfillment of American success. And we believe that advertising to
the farmer is a wise and practical investment.
