The sixth annual meeting of the
Saline Farmers' Club was held at the
residence of George J. jSfisslj* in the
Tillage of Saline, Friday, January 8,
lS92,with a large attendance. A meeting of the Farmers' Club in the village
is a rare occurrence, but at no place in
the country have the members enjoyed a
more cordial welcome or more genuine
hospitality than was extended to them
by Mr. and Mrs. Nissly and if all the
gatherings of the club in the village are
as pleasant as this one, the club will
not object to more of them. It being
the time of the annual election of officers
the usual programme was considerably
shortened. The report of the viewing
committee was giveu by Norman Wood
and called forth a discussion upon the
subject of raising hogs, after which a
general discussion was engaged in upon
the question "Is it best to breed and
select cows for diary purpose solely, if
one is engaged in dairying?'' nearly all
of the members answering the question
in the affirmative. The music furnished by Mrs." Townsend and Mr. Herbert
was evidently enjoyed by those present
and was a very pleasant feature of the
meeting. Mr. Kyte made a very inter-
resting report on the result of Ms experiments with potatoes, and exhibited
several varieties which he had grown
and seedlings which he had raised.
Mr. Kyte is authority on potato culture
as he has made it a special study f or
many years. The members of the club
made their customary tour of inspection
after dinner to look over the farm and
feathered stock of Mr. Nissly and all
expressed themselves well pleased with
the appearance of the birds, although
very few were sufficiently well posted
in this particular kind of stock to be
able to note the fancy points, and if the
fowls had one feather too many or too

For years the editor of the Ann Arbor

his office force wheeled in a handsome

trying' to see how it would fit him they
caught up his old milk stool aud stuck
it in the stove. He was fighting mad
